Can I make my forum active with this kind of promotion?

I am about to start a new message board about global warming. My strategy is this:

    1. Copypasting 30-50 articles about global warming and use them to create relevant threads.
    2. Spending 50$ on Adwords

No. People generally won't reply in a new forum unless it actually looks active. Pasted in articles are obvious and won't stimulate actual posting traffic.

Generic tips on new forums: start only with 1 to 4 forum discussion areas. Do not split your topic and community up by creating 20 forums to start. And yes, you must get some sort of initial traffic-- even if it is just you-- or hire one of those new forum posting services in Buy and Sell here. There must be discussion to start the traffic, not just copy/pasted articles.

if you are gonna copy/paste articles post them say 3/4 per day and create a couple of different accounts and post them under different accounts then it looks like 3/4 ppl are posting 3/4 post a day which looks better then 1 person posting 40 per day.

Great.. than I start with 4 or 5 accounts and spit the postings up. but what kind of adwords promotion do I need? 2000 visits in one day or 2000 visits in 2 weeks?

either way it could be worthwhile or worthless, if the forum looks in-active the 2000 visiters might all join but will they post?

You must have traffic willing to post. And other important point is that ppl only posts in those forums which already are active. They don't bother to alive dead forums. So you must show active threads and active members and good number of members online.

You can also offer to post in other people's forum in exchange that they post in yours. That's commonly how forums start. I'm sure this forum is no different.

Forums can be so hard to build up due to the catch 22. No one wants to visit or post unless its busy but if no one posts you never GET busy. I did a contest when I launched my forum and have away $400 in cash prizes. This method won't make sense for everyone though. You can see the contest at the forum in my sig. Worked well. My 5 Star affiliate forum has gotten pretty busy.

Wouldn't the copy/paste method get a duplicate content penalty? And wouldn't that make the forum harder to find making new visitors harder to get?

    Just asking....

    As active as posible?

Get your friends and family to sign up. Promote the heck out of the thing. And provide some interesting hooks for the people that happen by to comment on.

Perhaps, you can also make it an ad revenue sharing forum. That could help.
