AdSense allowed or?

I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that AdSense is not allowed on poker sites, tobacco sites, etc. Right now I'm looking for some link exchange partners for my cigar reviews site (my signature), and many of them are showing AdSense... and they seem to be successful sites, with high authority in Technorati, high PR and Alexa - so probably regularly getting paid by Google.

My question is : do they risk anything by displaying these ads? The ads don't advertise cigars, but rather cigar accessories.

    The Adsense Program Policies state:

Would this stop you exchanging links with them? If so, why? Getting banned from Adsense doesn't mean getting banned from Google, so what's the problem? Does your own site have that kind of content?

Are you asking if linking with them would put your site at risk or because you are considering putting AdSense on your site?

I think there are a couple things that might going on here. First, these were not the sites that the AdSense accounts were originally set up for. After Google approves the first site, the subsequent sites do not get reviewed unless called into question. So, they likely just have not been noticed yet. Second, doesn't anyone find it odd that there are cigar accessory, poker, and porn ads in the AdWords network? Since the ads are mostly contextual and sites that have content related to those areas are not allowed to display ads, I find it odd that those ads are allowed in the network. Is it possible that Google allows sites that violate the ToS so that these ads have some place to be displayed?

As far as the risks, I think what is most likely is that the site (but not the AdSense account) would be banned. This would probably happen right before a check was cut. Worst case, AdSense bans the whole account. So, they would lose access to a source of revenue they shouldn't have been using in the first place. That would be it.

Did the last two posters read the thread? He is not talking about poker or adult sites. His site is regarding cigar reviews. Poker and adult sites were only mentioned because they in the same portion of the ToS that tobacco related products are. I only mentioned them because I find it odd that there would be ads for those niches when the use of AdSense is not allowed on sites that would have the keywords to display them.

    Big No No,

Just as the others said , just make sure you read the TOS very carefully, you don't want a ban or warning letter , thats for sure

    Hope that helps

    Thanks everyone for your input.

I don't think linking to these sites will be harmful, I was thinking about publishing AdSense ads on my own cigar-related site. After nickr's quote, guess I won't be doing it :) Will probably try another network like Miva, they surely don't have these restrictions (do they?).

Bluegrass special, that's what I find extremely strange! Tobacco sites are not allowed in AdSense, yet there are plenty of AdWords campaigns for cigar accessories, humidors, etc. WHICH sites would be publishing these ads? I can't imagine a site dedicated solely to cigar accessories... Big question, indeed :)

reborn rather than just going forward with your decision, I strongly suggest you email them.

Cigar site and cigar accessories are different. Cigar accessories might not have any relation with tobacco products, well theoratically.

Rather than taking a decision based on our opinion, its better to take it based on adsense's opinion. just my 2cents to help you take a good decision.
