SEO vs WordPress

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by andrej, Aug 4, 2007.

I have a site that I run on Wordpress. I know there are some SEO plugins for Wordpress like e.g. "All in One SEO Pack" or "SEO Slugs" which removes common words like 'a', 'the', 'in' from post slugs to improve SEO (check them here).

So I just wonder if I shall install these plugins and if both of them? Are they good and will they really improve SEO of my WP blog?

I also wonder if there is anything else that shall be done on every WP blog to improve its SEO?

Rep+ will be added for your advice. Thanks in advance.

Hey, i had totally ignored SEO slugs and thanks for reminding me to take a look at it, it definitively looks like a good plugin, which decreases the characters in the URL and increases the % of the keywords (a good one to be used). All in one seo plugin is a really good one too, which can let you change title of the post (so it won't match with the keywords in the URL, but seo slugs will already do that) but in addition it will give you the possibility to add different description and different keyword metas for each post (which is a A+ in SEO).

I would definitively use them (hence, what the heck, i don't use any of the mentioned plugins so far) tho i have done some hacks for other insite seo purpose. But since the whole blog started as a test project, which slowly involved me deeper and deeper each day, and i always knew for these plugins, now, i will definitively think about using them (especially all in one seo and seo slugs).

    Cheers.

SEO plug-ins a must for WordPress. I actually use more than one for one of my blog. Although you have to make sure they don't conflict.

BTY, i think John Chow got banned because for his too many suspicious same keywords backlinks not because search engine sees his content twice. Supplementary commands has been disabled by Google recently so that webmasters can focus on other criteria for search engine optimization.

Ok, i have installed both plugins now (even tho i did not wanted the All in one seo pack) and they won't get in conflict and i will explain you now.

SEO slugs is a plugin which will change your post slug by removing the most common words such as "is" "at" "what" etc... so if you have a title "How to make money online" with a post slug yoursite.com/how-to-make-money-online/ the seo slug will change the post slug into yoursite.com/make-money-online/ anyway if you don't like the slug you can modify it and put it as the default so you won't have duplicate URL's with different content (it might make the wordpress go all wild)

All in one seo pack , i mainly use this plugin now to create unique description and keyword metatag for each post, i won't even change the title as i already make sure titles to be clean and keyword rich. You can set the options to not overwrite title (or to overwrite title) and some other interesting options.

    Hope this helps ;)

Talking of WP & SEO, I am gonna run just a picture blog with very little text, I take it that will be a bad thing?

Not really bad, using WP or anything else and not having much content will not make a huge difference. Yet, WP can make things easier for you and you can still try to optimize your picture/blog for better SE performance.
