How to stop "PM Info" Whores in BST

The whole reason why "PM Info" / "PM Details" work in Buy Sell Trade forum is that ... the sellers DO NOT provide enough information. If it is a RULE for all sellers to provide the needed information : URL / Description / $ etc, then it will cut down ALOT on the "PM" whores.

BTW, i do admit that I am one of those, but I really am wanting to buy those links, thats why. I need to know the details of each site link i am going to buy, and make the check for the value of links etc.

Instead of posting "PM more info" you could PM the seller !! As nowadays many of the webmasters prefer not to display the URL in the thread, rightly so I would say - as a competitor might report them for selling links, google webmaster tool has that option.

I agree it's to keep google from knowing which sites are selling links. The best way to communicate is through PM...most sellers encourage posting in their thread so that it stays on the top longer. If everyone realized that if they all quit bumping threads at the same time, their thread would stay on top for an amount of time that it would be visible to just about everyone that visits DP, without the risk of getting an infraction.

Pm'ing the seller takes more time on the buyers part to do - which if they are really interested in selling whatever - that's not good customer service :p

The time it takes to scroll down to Quick Reply and enter what you want, is at least half of what it takes to Pm the seller. Yes it may be seconds, but it does add up if you do it enough.

Yes but Agent Smith has a good point about just posting PM me details don't you think?

I don't think it takes too much effort to send a PM to the seller along the lines of:
    "Ref [Thread URL]
    Please send me info"
Also if people sending PMs can get out of the habit of posting 'PM sent' because it's a statement of the bleeding obvious to the recipient!

Yep he does :) I just don't think it should be up to the BUYER to take up more of his/her time. Again it's seconds, but they add up over time!

If a seller requests in the thread that I PM THEM - I don't even bother I shut the page and go on. I'm to lazy to do all that clicking, scrolling down for 1 mill sec and typing is faster. I AM LAZY! :)

If you have the time to answer posts - then you sure are not lazy.... I bet typing in a reply takes more time then clicking the user name of the seller and sending him a PM ;)

If you are too lazy to PM a seller, you are most likely not a serious buyer. jmo

C'mon guys, "PM me more info" posts are bumps. Sellers ask their friends to post them.

Actually no, there's more work involved try it ;)

Yeah you know... I'm not a serious buyer lol!

    ------------------

Either the postee should post the relevant information, or if DP wants to stop the "PM me information" posts... come up with a system that STOPS sellers posting NOT enough information in the threads.

There are many ways this can be done (I myself am not a vbulletin coder... so I can't say the exact details..) .. until then I don't see it stopping anytime soon.

You have to remember that a lot of people go ahead and post their interest in what the topic starter is offering, because they need to have a post in the thread if they want to legitimately give itrader. Also, if someone just posts "PM sent" then you can report the post and they'll at least get a warning (I have gotten one myself during my first few weeks here). Just my 2 cents though.

I do wish that topic starters would post better descriptions though, since waiting for more information seems really unnecessary (at least with job postings).

I'm not trying to insult you or anything but I would question why it is a big deal to PM for more information? If you really want something, I don't see what the big deal is. Also some prefer to do business as privately as possible.

Since starting this thread and reading thru every reply, it comes to me that there's no definite solution to this "PM info" +1 postcount problem.

THUS !! I think the BEST solution is to make BST a non +1 post forum :

You will not get any increment to postcount for any post you make in the marketplace. Only your itrader is : ))

I think it is a good idea, what do you guys think ? heh

Yes that is a pretty good idea but it will not stop the bumpers from trying to keep their thread on top for the longest, whether it's asking a DP friend to post PM me info or they reply with PM sent.

This was actually talked about a while ago

    THE ANSWER WAS;

    Just report "the thread"

    With something like

"This thread has a million bumps"

and then the mods will look at the thread.

They said that there was no need to report each user,

    C_R can verify this :)

Perhaps the DP developers could build a mod that when someone wants more info, they press a button and the seller is notified.

Yup.. this has been suggested by me over here:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=202255

To be honest, its something very easy to attain as there is a VB Mod available to do this. I really don't see much of programming or coding involved.
