Most ideal wordpress installation approach?

Recently i installed wordpress through fantastico at my cpanel but im thinking that before i actually get stuck in, it may be better to delete that install and install wordpress by hand.

What approach do you usually take when installing wordpress?

 

I do it by hand using FTP.

You use your brain and 2 hands. 1 hand will do also if you have a naughty dvd going. Just takes longer.

it has a simple install as long as your web host does not have crazy restrictions on it. Make sure you are on a linux os server. Wordpress cannot run on any other flavor.

only thing you need to do is edit the wp_configsample file and enter your Database Name, Database UserName, and Database Password. And 99% of the time you dont have to change host location unless your hoster has a specific database address you must you use.

Once all that is done you upload the files to your host. You go to the location of the wordpress install and you should get a page that will run the install for you. You follow the steps and you are done. The install creates the database entries for you and that is it. If you mess up deletion is easy. Delete the wordpress folder from your site and drop the tables you designated as wordpress and it is done.

nimbus, thanks for explaining, because i saw it available in fantastico i thought i would try it that way, any other script ive installed ive always done it by hand but after using fantastico to install it i thought i should of done it the old fashioned way as usual.

It will be my first wordpress blog and im always reading from other posts that it has a ton of extras so il enjoy using this.

 

hell no, as long as you have AMP, u can host wordpress in any OS

 

WordPress is awesome. It's the #1 platform to use if you want to do any blogging. Highly recommended.

 

Cool, it will take me a bit of time probably to get used to it but it looks worth it, im always attracted to anything that has a large community of users and plenty of goodies to expand.

 

Personally I avoid fantastico ... by hand via ftp is the only way I can get the control over the install that I need ...

 

Thats what i was thinking too, you have your own control over the install when doing it by hand.

 

I'll second those who do it by hand.
Manually create databases, users, upload the .zip to your server via FTP, then extract the files. Piece of cake

 

i personally use fantastico..as i got many blogs..its damn easier than uploading each and then installing..

its not very much of an issue with fantastico..

 

You are thinking in right direction.

Use it by FTP method and Never Ever go with Fantastico.

Its just easy as 1,2,3 so you will not have any trouble.
