Analytics is a great tool, it gives you various reports and you discover many things which you wouldn't have otherwise known.

Only point is that it takes time to reflect in the analytics in comparison to others.

For some reason or other it doesn't seem to be working at present. Hopefully it's only a temporary problem. ;)

The fact that Google Analytics under reports compared to other analysis s/w doesn't actually matter as long as you compare like with like. A 10% gain in traffic for a key term is still a 10% gain regardless of the actual figures provided by your s/w vendor whether it's Google Analytics or Clicktrax etc.

You must also consider that it's a JavaScript solution so bots and users without JS enabled will not be reported. I use traditional log analysis for those details, though I admit I'm really not looking much at those figures anymore.

One key factor in using G.A for me, is the ease of use with regard to keywords, conversion tracking, goals, AdWords and traffic sources. I can see how much the keywords earned directly in Analytics, where they came from etc. Marvelous! I know for instance that on one site each visitor from each source (site / search engine / cpc) is worth an average of X, and can easily work out what individual links & key phrases are worth in explicit terms.

    Me too.

I personally wont use it, i really dont like to hand Google all my sites data.. They have enough to work with allready, im in the business of exploiting Google and not the other way around. So i've shelled out a pile of pennies on a comprehensive paid solution.

You don't use Google webmaster tools too ?

I wish we could use more than one site with a single analytics account.

You can use the one account to track multiple sites.

I like the fact that it under reports compared to awstats or webalizer. Cuts out all the bots and automated traffic. Shows you the real visitors that matter. So what if a few users may have java disabled. Its a small number.

Personally, I'm not too concerned about the privacy issue of Google having access to my data. I'm only 1 of millions of sites. It's not like they need to single me out for anything. I guarantee they use the data, but as broad averages.

The two things I hate about Google Analytics.

    - Slow to update
    - Doesn't give direct links

Of course, I have another program that does this (a wordpress plugin called BAStats). Every week I purge the data from the database though, to avoid it getting too big.

I heard that if you post a rant about Google Analytics, they track down your domains and you get banned for life.:p

It's free and a good tool for a webmaster. It sucks up only the important data, such as real visitors and not machine generated traffic. It won't show those few who have javascript disabled, but that is rare nowadays and usually disabled if you have huge privacy concerns or are a huge scammer :D

The best thing I like about it is the detailed report of organic google source. It tracks all the keywords that were used to find your site. A good way to update your site for more relevant keywords or just a general idea for a future article.

    I use CNStats.

    Demo: http://stats.poleznoe.ru/cnstats/

The demo is just the Standard version, the Pro is far more comprehensive as you can see here: http://www.cnstats.com/en/about/feature-tour.php

And no Google Analytics is simply free data, not the key to online data.

This is very true. It is possible that some visitors are blocking certain scripts (I believe there is a Firefox plugin that does this, for example) and would not allow tracking to occur. In other words, some visitors will be missed.

Also, make sure to put the Google Analytics code on every page. Easy to do with Joomla!. :)
