market research, how to?

Hi guys,

I intend to create a social network site but right now i'm puzzle as to what features should I include inside.

so what do you think are the features that I MUST include, and those features that I SHOULD include?

You have facebook right? Have a look at the most used applications!

I think a friends quiz of some sort might be used quite often The "wall" on FB (message thing on Myspace on your profile) is a must of course!

Yeah but you might want to take out the news feeds, its quite annoying!

by the way, do anyone of you think having a friends update list useful? i.e. those available in friendster and hi5?

Friends update list is useful but see how FB uses the "___ wrote on ____'s wall" that's annoying, most people just hide that so don't bother adding it! I'll send you a rate

 

you can make it social networking site cum dating site or I would suggest you to add a chat room there.

Join facebook and you'll see. It's a function when you can give gifts to friends (that will appear on their profile page).

Just a heads up, I know someone else making a social bookmarking site. There's hope I guess... FB is 1/2 the size of myspace

 

I would suggest being able to upload video as well as pictures, and have "video galleries".

 

that's one good suggestion as well , may be an intergration with youtube you think?
it's gonna be harder to let user upload their video in raw format?

 

you MUST have all the features of the popular networking sites. Otherwise you won't compete. You should also have a niche or a new angle on social networking, a myspace clone just won't cut it.

Tying in a social networking site to a content or service based site is also a very good way to differentiate. Try to provide some real value to your members rather than just trying to soak up marketshare.

 

Join the top social networks and find out what unique features each of them have, then combine what ones you think would do best into your site.

 

I think it's best to get a poll completed by people who use social networking sites heavily as they have better input!

 

Thats a good call... It might be a bit difficult, as many people normally only stick to one social network - but I could be wrong.
