Does Google think better of .ORG domains?

Discussion in 'Google' started by lanmonkey, Jul 27, 2007.

I was reading discussions somewhere on here about google giving greater weight to links on.EDU and .ORG sites.

Does this mean that if I have a website called mysite.org google will give it some sort of additional preference than if I called it mysite.com?

    Thanks

Google doesn't give any extra weight to .ORG over .COM.

Generally .ORG sites might be disproportionately more trustworthy in who they link to than .COM sites so it might be possible to see such a trend, but the extra value will be because of the actual sites rather than the top-level domain.

Google does not give extra value to any tld. The perceived strength of certain tld's is derived from the sites that typically have them.

google _only_ gives extra values to country tlds, so you will rank better on google.de with a .de domain

I don't see any difference in site extensions at all. If sites have all the relevant they will show up.

    Backlinks
    Content
    SEO
    Good Naviagtion
    etc

.EDU is not available for public registration - it is only for educational institutions and almost exclusively for the United States.

I think .org and .edu has a little more weight (authoritive) than the others.

    .com is still my favorite

Because of the preponderance of discount deals on .org domains of late, .org has gotten the reputation of being a spam haven. As a result of that it is believed that Google has started to discount the reputational value of .org in SERPs. As for .edu, a lot of people say yes they do get reputational value.
