I think it is just noise. It's gotta be. This is the most crazy thing I've ever seen from Google. But knowing the answer without knowing the question why leaves us in the same boat.. the one going towards the waterfall without any paddles.

I found even big stuff. A site submitted to directories have a PR of 6 jumped from 0. The site is a genuine content site and only has 30 or so back links.

Well my pr4 site has just gone to pr0 with no pages listed and no backlinks - I have just spent a huge amount of time updating content, adding pages, and generally smartening the site up and this has now happened.

God I love google - NOT

These don't affect PR (other than adding pages which might a bit if by increasing number of internal backlinks).

If this is true, you may have a bigger problem than PR.

I thought the huge jump in backlinks to my site seemed suspicious. So I did a link:mysite.com and went through many of the listings. Not a single site I checked links to me. And it would be crazy if they did since they are all completely unrelated to my topic. Something's messed up at Goog.

None of that stuff. Actually, this site has been largely neglected. It's a one page site that sells an information product. I've never put any effort into link building, just submitted to some directories a long time ago. I sell a couple of my e-pamphlets each month. So it makes no sense that it should suddenly have almost 600 backlinks. I suppose a sudden jump in PR is possible if I got an incoming link from an authority site. But I haven't found one if there is.

    Odd.

    Forum links? Recent press releases?

What is the product? Could it be something that's just taking off for some reason?

I am #1 in Google for a topic that has over 95,000,000 pages with this 3 world phrase.

What other details do you need? I am not listed in DMOZ either. I am beating sites like BBC, Wikipedia, about.com , etc. I am a historical topic...World War II.

It's nothing I've done, that's for sure. No forum postings or press releases. The topic is K1 fiance visas for a particular country. Very niche and not likely to draw a sudden increase in links.

So when I look through the listings that Google says are linking to me, and I don't see any links, what's going on?

Yeah I think my site has been delisted completely from google - not exactly sure why but not a lot I can do about it - and I can be as annoyed as I want but it won't make any difference - just have to depend upon Yahoo and MSN now

Maybe not - they have a reinclusion request system and they expect to make mistakes doing jagger update. So I highly recommend trying to do a reinclusion.

Before you do that, what makes you think it's been delisted? What is the URL? If there is a problem with the site, there may be little point in requesting reinclusion until you fix the problem, and if it's not actually delisted you're just wasting your own and Google's time.

Try searching for www.sitename.com or do a site:www.sitename.com query.

You can also do a reinclusion request if you think you've been punished by google for some reason. Matt Cutts has info on his blog.

I lost a lot of rankings back in July and I thought I was punished (turns out I was). Took me 2 months to figure out what my designer did. I fixed it and I sent a request in, a week later I was back into google just fine. I can't be sure what I did appeased the beast, but it seems so (and if it was that, then google REALLLY hates 2 sets of H1 tags on every page of your site - especially if one appears to be navigational elements, ie links).

Now my site that jumped to PR6 and almost 600 backlinks has settled back down. It is now showing PR3 and 0 backlinks! What kind of way to run a search engine is this?
