Google's 2007-Q3/Q4 PageRank (PR) Update

That article is over a year old. And even in that he says "getting good quality links would probably help us know to crawl your site more deeply", I think that's what he actually meant to say in the first place and was using PR as a guide for people to judge how many links they have. I don't think actually meant the 0-10 value is what they refrence when deciding how deep to crawl a site.

 

Well, we can amicably disagree on that interpretation. Matt did say their crawling strategy looks at the "amount of PageRank".

 

Whether we all agree on it's import or not, Page Rank is what it is. It seems a little foolish to me to argue over the importance of something that simply exists without our input or advice.

 

Right... but he is talking about the amount of actual PageRank, not the visible PageRank. Have a visible PR4 one day, then having an update, and having a visible PR7 afterwards, does not mean that you were crawled at the PR4 rate the day before the update and crawled at the PR7 rate afterwards... if you were going to be a PR7 once the update hits then you are already getting crawled at that rate, regardless of what the toolbar says.

The main benefits of the PageRank export, to us as SEO's, is:

1) It gives us a sense of accomplishment.
2) It does make other people (whether they know it or not) take our sites more seriously... webmasters who know the difference are more likely to link to a higher PR site, especially in a link exchange.
3) It gives us a better idea of where we want to focus our efforts on getting links from.

I agree! If I get PR7, I might actually think it's worth celebrating by going out and meeting friends and socializing which means the chances of getting laid are increased dramatically compared to if I keep my PR6 and have to start link building again.

The sad thing is that there is actually some truth in it

 

No, I meant I insist on believe that chicks have the hots for guys with high PR's.

Then you go ahead and think PR is just a number. As for me, I know what I understand that blog entry to be saying and I know PR is more than just a number.

 

So you prefer to get CRAWLED MORE then to have GOOD rankings

slight edit: Only if you are in the SELL linking business. My PR doesnt give me anything, besides prolly helping with SERP. well maybe.

PR show some reliability/trust(?) to a site.(site is old etc)

Erm, high PR automatically comes with good ranking

good ranking = organic backlinks = PR

High PR site + daily content creation = Faster indexing = more traffic

 

Anyone who makes money with a website knows how the income DROPS when the PR falls. PR makes or breaks you financially. If you are not selling anything on your website, you probably do not understand this symbiotic relationship. This must be why some people think "PR is not important..." Maybe not to them, but to those of us trying to make sales, PR is crucial.

 

That's not true.

You're leaving out the fact that 99.999% of the keywords out there don't need a ton of backlinks to rank for.
