Do directories really need a blog attached to it?

Hello,
Wonder if a directory really needs a blog attached to it? And if so, exactly what sort of a blog a directory can have? Well i am trying to compile a blog on my directory, but i fear that eventually i will run out of ideas, so what sort of blogs could go with a directory if a directory needs a blog ? I know directoryblog like the one i am building talks about directories, but what else can it talk about?

 

well,im not really a blog person,but i put one on linksdirec.com a few months ago..i paid for some photoshop tutorials,some unique articles on SEO and the such for it..not sure if it adds anything to the site or not though

 

I don't think so.

 

A blog will serve to create more unique content on your site which we all know the search engines love.

This could also boost your PR in terms of your content pages linking back to your homepage and other pages within your site.

However, if you have nothing to write about or will run out of ideas then it is a total waste of time.

 

Well does yahoo also love content or is it just google that loves content?

 

It helps a lot when it comes to SERPs. We experienced a huge change when we launched a blog on Link Moz Directory. We have it updated regularly as content needs to be fresh.
It is a useful addition to a directory especially when it comes along with a homepage newsfeed, as it ads more than enough content to your site.
And we all know that directories have difficulties when it comes to content.

 

Everybody loves content. Your visitors also love content. Everyone needs information about something. If you can provide that then many people will love you.


PS: I know well about information, so you can take my word on that.

 

I don't think need is the right word. Some can do quite well without them, but for others a blog is a definite enhancement. I think it would make more sense for a niche directory to have a related blog, but for general directories your audience is a bit too broad unless you want to aim it specifically at SEOs.

There's not much point in adding one unless you can fill it with valuable content on a regular basis.

 

A blog on a general directory is a good place to talk about expeptional sites listed within the directory. You could simply award a blog post to the best design of the month or something like that.

 

Now thats what i call smart thinking, quite interesting thought.

 

Blog is a good addition to your directory. It's add a unique content, good for users and good for search engine. I like the jg123 idea, maybe you can also create package and add additional charge for blog post (example : Featured Listing + Blog Post about their site).

 

If you want to offer something interesting to read for people who use the directory, you can always attach a blog.

I have been reading the dirsensei and avivadirectory blogs and have found them interesting.

 

You don't have to have a blog but I will help with the search engines because the traffic to your blog may get these visitors to visit your directory and submit their sites to it.
It can definitly help but it is not a must.

Every Directory should have a blog. It's a great way for the owner to communicate with guests it also attracts traffic from other sources and well it's just a good thing to do. Blogs will only continue to becoming more popular as time goes on.

 

But with time, just like with every market, wont blogs become over crowded and all congested

 

Here is a better way of saying it. If you are going to make a good blog that visitors or would be visitors to your directory would appreciate and find value you in then yes. If your just going to make a post every few months poorly formatted giving absolutely nothing to the end user than by all means don't.

The decision is yours

 

I think both. A blog also can give you much needed traffic.
