    how close do you think msn and yahoo are going to make their algorithms to google. Obviously, links will play a part in them. I dont believe this was the case before with them was it?

    i can definatly tell that they are weighting anchor text a lot cause 3 target keywords for one of my clients are in the top 5 results.

    not many blog posts of forum posts showing up towards the top. Maybe they are filtering them out? However, some of my sites returned #1 for terms they are not to be found in the top 20 of google with!! All in all.... I like.

    Here is my guess... They know all of us are optimizers. We are all prolly posting very well for our terms and they are just mucking with us. They are sitting around, drinking Zima and playing Ping Pong. Then they go back and laugh at all the keyword searches we have done for our sites.

    It's nice that anchor text plays such a large role for them.
    Makes life seem all too easy doesn't it ?

    It needs major work if it's going anywhere, and they know it too.

    We are seeing great results also. Just a thought - our sites are listed in the msn small business directory - and have been submitted to msn via that site.

    Anyone not in the directory that is still seeing much better than google results?

    I have a site that is about 3 weeks old and is appearing at number 4 out of 119 million. Nice if it stays there. Others sites also appear to be in good positions.

    Guess it's kind of silly that we are able to optimise for a SE that technically doesn't exist yet. Is it that we are all that good we can predict how SEs of the future will work? Somehow I think I have to agree with John on this one and accept they have a lot of work to do.

    I just spent the last hour or so playing with that link: command...

    Really interesting stuff.

    It looks like it is listing the results in order of importance (Domain index pages first, then 1 level down, then 2)etc etc...

    Also, if you take the url that is produced... then add 
    &first=1&count=100
    Code (markup):
    at the end of it, the number of backlinks jums up a hell of a lot...

    Really nice results though. Makes life a LOT easier IMHO.

    I can't wait 'till longhorn comes out ;)

    I (personally) like the MSN techpreview, because I'm #1 for virtually everything I can think of that I would want to be.

    Unfortunately that probably means it's not doing a good job and relevancy and is easily manipulated.

    When it comes down to it, the more that SEOs "like" a particular search engine's results, the easier it is to manipulate and less relevant it actually is. We love MSN's new search engine, we all like Yahoo and everyone thinks Google is "broken". With Google being the hardest to manipulate. :)

    That may be very true. However, I'm hoping I at least get a good month or two out of it live and as is, before they decide to redo everything. In most cases, search engines are a bit slow to change. So, if it goes live as is, and they slowly change it, some of us may reap a few rewards before it all goes bust. One can hope... :) (And I don't even have to feel guilty about it, since I didn't do anything beyond normal optimization. Hey, if MSN wants to give me a bunch of #1's for that, even for a little while, I'll take it - guilt-free). ;)
