i have changed my mind on this slightly since my last post

i now believe the most important three things to be

1 inbound links
2 more inbound links
3 see 2

especially for google you can manipulate the serps with enough inbound links

 

the age of your ibl's are also important...

 

i would disagree with this to some extent.

even a couple of month old pages can rank #1 for very difficult keywords if you have enough ibl

As an update to my earlier suggestions...

Choose a good hosting provider - my current hosting company was mistakenly blocking a GoogleBot by IP which meant that all Google got for it's troubles was a 403-6 error (Forbidden by IP).

The downside? The homepage in question has dropped off Google altogether (was #7) and I'll have to wait for Google to re-visit.

Imagine this happening to your site. Hence choice of hosting company is very important. As if Google can't see your pages it doens't matter about back-links or optimisation.

As SEO and Search Engine Marketing becomes more competitive, the larger websites will be more successful. For your Optimized website to be successful in 5 years, you better have tons of pages. Since the corporate companies are not getting SEO and Search Engine Optimization.... Small businesses can take advantage now, but to be successful get your SEO guys or webdesigners to build more optmized pages.

SEO Size does matter

As a helful tip, build your website to be large, even look into a organized search engine optimization plan in developing multiple websites. Heck... build one a day and have a link with anchor text pass back to your home page. Before you know it you will be pasing Page Rank through out the site and have a betterrate of ranking your site for a keyword.

Personally I'd say it depends on the competitiveness of the keyphrase - you can rely on just content and title if it's not a competitive keyphrase. It seems that the more competition for a keyphrase the more that IBLs have an impact.

Probably also explains why we seem to have the same 3 things appear (content, title and IBLs) but in different orders.

1. On Page SEO -has both Mata tags as well as Content
2. Anchoring from Own website as well as inbound links
3. Proper updation of content regular basis

 

I would say not only "good" but also "varied" - it's really important to have different anchor text for each inbound. That seems natural to search engines and thus is good for you.

 

I've submitted to many directories with the same anchor & description... now when I see a new one pop up I alter both slightly. I like the concept of it, and am hoping that it'll pay off. As it stands, I only have one of the directories that match listed as a backlink in google, and am hoping that a few others will pop up with the different text/anchor.

And I do agree that it does seem more natural, at least in my eyes.

2. Site must be search engine friendly (better if your site is w3c compliant).
3. Proper directory submission.
