investing money is no problem I think because probably you'll already need to invest some money :p

I believe that they will require passport copies and some application forms

Do they provide you US checking account or savings account ? I think you want this bank account for your PayPal fund transfer & PayPal only supports US checking account. On their site it is clearly mentioned for checking account "All applicants must be U.S. residents and be at least 18 years of age."

Further I have heard that you need to deposit at least $3000 & not $1000 to continue your account with them. I may be wrong but one of my friends has inquired about this few months ago & got this kind of reply from them.

Now almost all of the banks in US allow you to open a US bank account but their minimum deposit is quiet high for non-US. All you need to do is just call their branch manager & ask him to open a US bank a/c for you. They will surely first force you to come to US & visit their branch to open an account for you. But if you have a strong reason to open a US bank account with them & tell them about your disability to come to US they will ask you to deposit at least between $3000-$10000. $1000 is for brokerage account & brokerage a/c of all banks don't support PayPal ACH transfer.

My Dad is on a good post in Bank Of India (BOI) & many of my friends have inquired to open a US bank a/c so I know about this things very well. Even being an Indian you can open an account with US branch of BOI which requires you to deposit at least $10,000 while opening the account & $25,000 turn over per year. Residing at India you can't simply maintain all these.

At present the best way is just open a brokerage account with e-trade bank which allows international customers to open with them & also supports PayPal ACH transfer. All you are reading on internet by googling is just not the truth. There are 100 times more negatives you can find about PayPal on internet & still people are going for PayPal so why don't you go for e-trade ?
After all they have 24 x 7 international phone line help & you are getting good response from them. If you have ever called PayPal customer care you will surely find e-trade 10 times better. In this cyber world crime is ever where. You just can't stop your business due to that reason.

And most importantly do they allow paypal remittance? This is very important as otherwise there is no use in opening account with HSBC

if we open account with e trade do we get debit card for verifying paypal account?
