    It's here because it's not really a dmoz question - it's a predicted Google page rank question.

    If the google search says you have two listings then you do... if the google listing says you have two listings you may wish to check DMOZ as that may no longer be the case.

    directory.google has NOT been updated in over two years!
    however it's search feature is VERY misleading as it uses the SITE: command for dmoz.org rather then searching it's own directory.

    That means if you had two sites listed at DMOZ in 05 they are shown in the google directory. However, if those sites were removed due to whatever reason then they will not show up in the search. Alternatively, if you had two sites listed since 05 then they will NOT show up at Google, but will be found with it's search.

    Confused? Good...so are the rest of us!

    I've got a site in DMOZ and it did nothing for PR. Then again, I didn't expect it to, nor was that my motivation for submitting it there.

    Did you just submit your URL to them or did you have to do something special?

    Gratz Ximpda!

    From Hella...
    Umm...I could give a rat's A... about your other thread.

    Hell...the correct response to Ximpda's post from you should have been "gratz man! IMHO I don't believe DMOZ is important...but gratz just the same :)"

    But Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Instead you got rain on his parade, and bring your DMOZ tirade over here too.

    Bro...just say "Gratz" and be done with it!

    Nope. You get no good PR.

    Let me show you an example so that you understand better:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    DMOZ CATEGORY: Recreation/Travel/Guides_and_Directories PR=6
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    tyzo.com
    (plus 1 deeplink in Recreation/Travel/Lodging/Hostels)
    PR=0

    surf-sun.com
    PR=0

    motherearthtravel.com
    (plus 3 deeplinks: (1)Society/History/By Region/Europe/Germany (2)Regional/South America/Uruguay/Society and Culture/History, Regional: Middle East/Lebanon/Society and Culture/History/ War with Israel )
    PR=0

    tuttinsieme.it
    (plus 1 deeplink in Regional/Europe/Belgium/Travel and Tourism)
    PR=0
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    Note: These 4 sites have been listed for over 2 years.
    A DMOZ link from a PR6 page is not sufficient for these websites to go from PR=0 to PR=1. Several even have "valuable" deeplinks.

    OTHER SIGNS THAT DMOZ LINKS ARE NOT WORTH WORRYING ABOUT:

    (1) Google hasn't updated its version of the Directory in two years and has no longer links to it at all (Google USA).
    (2) DMOZ categories are buried deep in the Google SERPs.
    (3) DMOZ clones are buried in the deepest bowels of the SERPs, literally in the sewers.
    (4) Wikipedia pages are floating on top of SERPs everywhere instead.
    (5) Matt Cutts has publicly come forth to say that DMOZ links aren't special.
    (6) The directory is full of hijacked domains, parked domains, 404's and therefore Google would be stupid to use this antiquated, pathetic excuse of a link farm when it has a state-of-the-art, lightning-fast and gigantic software/hardware/manpower infrastructure.

    Do you want more examples? I've got lots more.

    Well the OP did take the time and an editor did approve the site. What's done is done. What the OP wanted to know was the likely impact on Google's Pagerank. I think helleborine has given the best concrete examples. Now perhaps we should just wait to see if the OP has further questions.

    I don't think he meant to rain on anyone's parade, but what he had to say was fact among SEO specialists, not an opinion. DMOZ has become incredibly devalued in the past few years and obtaining a link there isn't what it used to be.

    On the other hand, getting listed in DMOZ is near-impossible, for better or for worse, so I'll throw a congrats in there as well :D

    I was going to ask if submitting a site to DMOZ is worth the time and effort required to get listed. Ive submitted sites there in the past, over 6 months to a year ago and followed up on forums (said to be frequented by DMOZ editiors) only to find that there was no record of the submission.

    Ive also heard of several different reasons for the long waits that make sense but at the end of the day given all of the other means of promoting a site, makes you wonder if listing in DMOZ is worth the effort.

    Based on the responses on this page, specifically helleborine and a few others.

    It does NOT appear to be valuable enough to justify the time and effort.
