Hey, I'm looking for some ideas on how to drive traffic towards my font site Cool Fonts. So far I have: -Posted my website in forums & put my website in my signatures -Digged website -Started linking with other sites (2 PR5 and 1 PR2, I don't submit to directories because I believe google doesn't care if you have links from sites like that. Google just likes quality links.) -Promoted on Google Groups -Had blog posts made about my site I tend to steer clear of social bookmarking sites. The effort of getting people to add your site to their bookmarks isn't worth the very small reward. None of the traffic seems to be quality traffic either. So I know the main thing is to focus on getting some good inbound links which will get some traffic and also help me get up the ranking in SEO. But I'm sure there are lot's of other things I don't know about. +Reps for any advice given!
I would advice you to also submit to general directories, even if maybe it won't have much effect, it's always good for you if more IP's are linking to your site. I noticed this from experience. You started your promotion nicely. Why not write some quality articles and have them distributed ? You could write articles like "Proper Ways Of Using Fonts" or similar, those that will read it will through an eye on your website also. Wish you luck!
Thanks for the input! Green repped you. I will write some good articles and I will also submit to some directories using some of the services offered on this forum. That way I can submit to a large number of directories for a small price and not have to spend my own time. Any more advice is highly appreciated!
Seems like this is getting to be a standard response for me. Make a marquee scroller widget featuring some of your cool fonts for people to add to their websites and pages. (very viral)
43things.com. I added my site to that and it helped. I know you're not keen on social bookmarking sites, neither am i, but this is one site that works well.
Do a large link building campaign using some of the keywords you want to target as the anchor text. this will help you in natural search eventually. It is advised to submit to directories, some free, most paid in order to get some quality backlinks. Google still does care about Directories and it can help you out! Good luck!
Try to update your site regularly like posting new fonts every week. This will be your "hook" for links. Think of content that would catch people's attention, like contests and stuff.
I would contact some sites that have very plain text on their homepages and ask if its ok to rework the site for them in different fonts. Use the fonts to highlight areas that you want the customers attention drawn to. Then send them a copy of their site with your new shiny fonts and let them see your work. once you have a couple references post a couple sales in this forum and others for site reworking with your fonts. In exchange for all your work have the site owners include a link back to your site with anchor text that is the keyword phrase you want to be indexed for. Make sure that your keyword phrase is dominant on your site, header, footer, content, and all your <h> </h> text. Use alt tags on all your gifs and jpegs with your keyword phrase on your site.
