At least Google sounds better than Dogpile as a name for your kid

    Quote from Sergey Brin

"We chose our system name, Google, because it is a common spelling of googol, or 10100 and fits well with our goal of building very large-scale search engines."

If a company offered to pay you, $500 dollars per month for the rest of your life. If you changed your name to, their company name. Would you take the offer.

Well, if ESPN can have a kid named after them, why not Google, I guess. Has anyone auctioned off naming rights for their kid on eBay yet? I have to imagine GoldenPalace.com would pay for that...

Maybe I should go home and have a talk with the wife...

Nah, I'd want more, and up front.

Anyone know where the guy got a doctorate in Search Engine Marketing? I haven't heard of any programs like that...when I went to school (not too long ago, either--4-5 years) I had one session of one class devoted to online marketing, and I finished a marketing degree and and advertising degree.

I know the same school offers classes in interactive marketing (tought by a professor who apparently didn't know too much--when he quoted prices from Yahoo's rate card at the time, she informed him that we were currently paying about 10% of that price). But I still haven't heard of any legit degrees in online marketing...anyone else?

I was actually born at the time the first man walked on the moon. Local paper wanted my parents to name me after one of the Astronauts.... They said sure, just give us a little college scholarship or something.

No can do.. So I am not Buzz or Neil or Alan!

This is another urban myth. It's been around for a while, too. The last time it appeared, the child in question had been named Yahoo. It was a fake then too.

Bad idea. When she gets her first apartment, it will be known as Payton's Place. As her father, you'll never get a full night's sleep again.

Something tells me Google's crummy lawyers havn't seen the story or they would of probably busted the domain for having Google in the name and then try to sue the kid for 75 years worth of so called trademark infringment!!!!!!

I figured it was probably done...I probably read about it then too, and just blocked it out of my memory.

Guess it's back to buying bags of patato chips and hoping that one will look like someone famous...

I tryed to search to see if anyone else has posted about this but couldnt find anything. Also i didnt know if it was ok to put it in this category, but it IS google related. :p

A couple in sweden have named their child "google". You can read more about it at my blog.

Sorry for pimping my blog but it is interesting. Would you name your child Froogle or Adsense?
