what did it cost to setup your website?

I paid about $210 to setup my website with network solutions. This was the domain name and 3 years hosting.

I noticed that some of the people on this forum have up to 10 websites and I can't imagine they are paying close to $2500 for them - or are they?

How much did it cost you to setup your website and what company did you use for domain name and hosting?

Domain Name - GoDaddy.com ($8.95 for first year)
Hosting - Lunarpages or Asmallorange (Price depends on storage/bandwidth/features required)

My websites probally cost me maybe $3-$4 each a month, besides advertising. Not sure on specific amount but it's not much at all.

Get a reseller account or dedicated when you go to more than just one or two sites, well worth it.

Hey wow I missed that, I would NEVER pay for hosting that far in advance. A year for a great deal is about as far as I go, even then it's easy to get burned.

I'd pay for a domain for three years, but not hosting. I use to switch hosting companies far to often for that.

Have heard (not confirmed) that one of the components to the Google search algorithms includes a check on how long you have paid to register your site domain.

I pay 14.95$ a month for hosting. My domains are 8.95 a piece through go daddy, so I pay roughly 18$ a month for 10 sites.

In short, Network Solutions screwed you.....welcome to the internet.

How long a domain is registered for has nothing to do with pre paying for hosting. Google has no idea how long in advance you have paid your hosting provider. Not a good idea to pay up front for 3 years of hosting either.

    Registration is different than hosting.

    registration = domain name renting
hosting = servers to run your sites on

My FIRST domain Name cost me <gulp> <Wait for it> £200 as THAT was what a .co.uk cost when they were first launched. I set up a local portal, worked my nuts off for 3 months and was offered £10k for it. After the guy had sewn back on the hand I bit off he wrote the cheque :D Well worth the gamble!

Now domains in the uk cost £6 for 2 years. I host them on my own server so the cost is £50 a month, or on the US server which cost a few dollars a month.

$9.95 per domain through Verio, yes it's high but I like the way I can manage domains there. I've got 12 domains with them.

Hosting, I'm a reseller. I pay $50/mo for my space / bandwidth to use / sell however I want. So, additional domains do not cost me anything for hosting.

I just called Network Solutions and they want to charge another $75 for another domain name for 3 years!

    They jipped me!

I will try "godaddy" and "asmallorange".
