    up to now,
only two backlink check tools are reliable(for yahoo only) and work i think,
they are backlinkwatch and yahoo site explorer,
    so i have a question,
why some sites have more than 30K backlinks at yahoo but only less than 5K at BW,
some sites have 10K at yahoo and 8K at BW,
    what happen?!

I’m not entirely sure, but it might have something to do with usage limits. I believe BackLink Watch has some API integration for their data retrieval. But I might be completely wrong. ;)

Its because BacklinkWatch uses Yahoo API which is up to date and very current compared with other search results provided by Yahoo! Site Explorer.

    BacklinkWatch depicts the correct picture.

I think for me Yahoo explorer... 'coz backlinkwatch is always down... always on upgrade. I think their checker is on beta running unlike yahoo which is stable in terms of checking backlinks....

No, because backlinkwatch is powered by Yahoo! and it provides max 1000 results like any other search engine.

Then why few other tools like onestopwebmasters can provide more than 1000 results? Who powered them?

I think they use a tool similar to - if not the same as iwebtools here

I don't know but my best understanding is they use Google crawlers from different data centers to give an approximate idea of how many sites linking to them by using generic queries like

and showing generic link results as :

However i still think iwebtools is soggy and slow and still find's Yahoo's stats quite accurate (although they update links drastically late).
