    Hi,

I have a technology blog www.techpressnewswire.info and i'd just like to know what ways i can market it? It's a blog, not a website. So what ways are there? I know I can join blog topsite, but what other ways are there for blogs? I have joined some blog communities and pasted their widgets on my site.

You should promote it like you promote any other site.
Try to get listed in as many directories as possible. Also, try to buy and exchange links.

Doesn't matter if you are marketing a website, blog or a forum, most of the promotional stuff is the same.

I agree with ablaye and yogesh sarkar about promoting a blog. I use Adwords, link exchanges, Blogads.com advertising, and I participate in forums targeted to my blogs audience.

But just as important is creating a blog that people really want to read and come back to day after day. What you write and 'how' you say it is as significant as the traffic aspect. It all goes hand-in-hand.

I think promoting blog is more leaned towards building social connections and self promotion. Although the same approach could also be applied for conventional websites.

A blog is a type of website. The only difference is that you hopefully update the blog more frequently than a static website. So you could use Digg and similar sites when you get new content.

It doesn't make any difference actually if it's a blog or a site.
You promote it in the same way.

Buy some relevant quality links and maybe a few reviews to create some buzz.
Write great content and submit to the: Best 23 Social Bookmarking Sites [June 2007]
Submit to directories and build as much backlinks as possible to improve your rankings.

    Your blending is not good.

Several people have said things along the lines of "blog & a site are just the same - exactly the same promo methods".

I think it does make a difference, because blogs have a big 'community' element. People who read blogs generally have blogs themselves, & each have the power to link to yours (boosting direct traffic, search rankings & all the rest). So engaging with/integrating yourself into your niche's community can do a lot for you. Another big difference is that people expect blogs to be updated at least every few days - therefore you can build a very frequently returning audience.

Here are just a couple of ideas, which are fairly unique to blogs:

    1. work with your community

    1. post comments on prominent blogs in your niche / related niches
    2. link to other relevant blogs in your posts
    3. post opinion pieces on what other bloggers are talking about
    4. guest blog on others' blogs
    5. get them to guest blog on yours
    6. interview prominent bloggers in complementary niches
    (etc)

all of this gets you mindshare within your niche, grows your network, increases your reach (to the audience of other bloggers), increases the likelihood of inbound links from other bloggers, etc. (links to other blogs will usually get you a trackback; comments on others blogs will usually get you a link back. these are usually nofollow, but if your comments / trackbacks are interesting, you will get through traffic, etc)

    2. Let your audience spread the word

Make sure your content is easy to spread via social bookmarking, etc. Grow & promote your RSS & email lists (use feedburner or something similar to manage/track this). Start/participate in memes. Put together & promote your own blog theme/widget/plugin, with a link back to your site.

Those are just a couple of simple ideas that are fairly unique to blogs. There are no-doubt dozens.

Some little extras: It's also useful to make sure you're set up to automatically ping the big blog directories, try using technorati tagging, etc. Try & get into the iGoogle directory (anyone know how this occurs?). Try to make sure your rss feeds / archive pages aren't flagging as duplicate content in the search engines.

I was about to post almost all of the same things as danielb.

While much website promotion is the same, blogs can form more of a community. Because the pages are not static, and are frequently moved from the index page to lower pages, webmasters are often more likely to link to your site just because they agree with or like the content.

There is a much greater advantage to finding relavant blogs and posting comments, even if they have the nofollow enabled.

Daniel B and ADAC are both right on spot- BLOGS are web 2.0, and VERY different than traditional sites..promoting them is EASIER typically, assuming content et al is up to snuff. Follow Daniels advice and that should get you kicked off..you can also incorporate ppc as well to give it the extra boost that might be needed.. :)
