The basics of SEO are easy, but time and time again many people (like me) make the same mistakes, mistakes that will restrict your website’s or blog’s ability to rank highly on search engines. The good news is that many of these mistakes are fairly easily sorted out.

1. Not having a unique title tag on every page
2. Not using H1 - H6 tags correctly
3. Using “click here” or “read more” for anchor text
4. Not providing Google with a site map
5. Not targeting the right keywords
6. Not putting alt text and image titles on images
7. Writing the Meta description for search engines and not humans
8. Using too many keywords in the meta-keywords
9. Not building enough links

Very well put together, but I do not think that #3 really makes any difference unless you are using that anchor text on sites that you are getting your links from. Either way you have made a good post and I am sure that some of the other new owners will find this info helpful.

This is very useful to beginners. There are a lot of "what to do to be an SEO super hero" articles, but not enough "what not to do in order to achieve SEO enlightenment". lol

In my opinion, the biggest mistake is:

After correcting the above 10 common mistakes, you find that..

Spiders / Bots cannot access your site due to accidental disallow robots commands in robots.txt or compulsory site authentication.

Making sure that your site is indexable should be the top priority for any Webmasters that want visibility from the search engines
