I don't think anyone who tried this is willing to admit it (other than leet) in fear of Google ban :D

    another question.
how about completely removing the adsense ads from the site for those couple of days. wait for the bot to crawl the page. and then put the ads back up. you will not be violating any rules, since you are simply taking ads out and putting them back in.

I can't believe my eyes! Has it come this far! If anybody took the time, looked at every post in this thread and summed up all posters that just s**t in their pants (pardon my words) for just editing a bit of code?

Just incredible. Google really has everyone in its clutches.

That said. It is "illegal" to alter the "adsense code". However, it also happens that Google will allow altering of this code for cosmetic reasons. Furthermore G will allow you to remove the publishing code when you're working on the site.

And when exactly "are you working" on the site? That's a sentence that can be interpreted quite broadly, isn't it? :p

Of course, it's risky to edit the code. After all, G has functionality in place to monitor the adsense revenue of individuals. They will play with statistics and see if your website revenue is "out of the ordinary". Especially if it ever comes to sending that big check to your address :D

However, as every company, they will not penalize ever infriction. Do this on a grand scale, and you will get noticed. Play it wize, and G won't (care to) notice.

And to leet: a big thumbs up to keep answering all those posts criticising your original post. I'm baffled that you even care to keep answering them (even after some rather personal attacks)!

Depends on how often Google bot visits your site. But it's good to do 3 days.

Hey leet, I have an idea!
From what i understand, you are saying that it is the GoogleBot that checks your ads. So instead of deleting and adding the id all the time, why not write a script that detects googlebot and show it the ads without the publisher id. So that way only googlebot will see the ads without the id but regular browsers see the ads with the id.

I wrote a simple php script to do this and put it on my site. I will let you guys know if i see any changes. Oh and pm me if you want the php script, i'll be happy to share since Leet was kind enough to share his find.

How does your script track the GoogleBot? That might be a good idea.

It just looks at the user agent for the word "google". I have tested it by spoofing googlebot's user agent [which is Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html) i believe] and it seems to detect it fine.
