It is most definitely possible. However it takes lots of time and luck. You're much better off working for your goals.

 

Possible -- because

1) 1 PR7 link enough for a decent and marketable PR.
2) If you have decent amout of other sites -- and good traffic on them -- link your directory to all of them. You get good traffic + decent PR.

So yes-- Possible.

@ blogmaster -- we will compare our SE traffic on 30th December, 2007 ( not 31st as we will have to booze around) --.

Although I am always for PR -- I am working on my own for words which have very little relations to directories.

 

this is a good findings...so far i've never experience this.

I think we have to define what we mean by "no promotion". If you mean "no money spent" then yes, it is possible, although quite difficult. But doing things such as networking, aubmitting to free directories, swapping links, and so on, is also promotion. It's just a case of spending time instead of spending money.

And can we have a ballpark figure for "good" money? That has to depend on where you live and what your expectations are. I mean, if you invest no money whatsoever in a directory, and just do a little bit of editing now and then, then you might be impressed by getting any money in return, and consider it good.

You can but paid promotion does help. That being said you can spend 000's and get nothing if you don't put it in the right place. Lots' of people get all psyched on buying this and that for traffic. Just paying doesn't mean you'll get traffic but if you choose similar sitse with high traffic it's a recipe for success.

While my saying is and always will be... It takes money to make more money

You can only get so far in life with free handouts then it will take money to take you to the next level.

Well BIG money is a very relative term really depends a loot on your perception.

- I don't think so, one of the first checks folks do is home page PR then internal page PR and if both are zero the chances of you getting a paid submission is very slim.

 

Its true however i can only agree partly. PR isnt everything. A PR3 directory can make much more money than PR6/PR7 site if it gets good SERPS in search engines. Naturally SERPS can outperform PR.

Obviously everybody knows its not that easy to get good SERPS ranking in google, especially for directories.
