Same here.. Saw a massive jump about a month back, with about 25 terms in the top 10 finally.. Things remained steady until today, when everything just tanked.. McDar is showing the drop on 90% of the datacenters, but I'm hanging on with a few of them.. Hope this is a temporary thing..

I'm seeing major drops today also. Almost all my terms have dropped out of the top 100, when most were top ten for the last few months. Google traffic to my website is probably 5% or less of what it was the last few months. :( This just happened this morning, as yesterday was more or less normal.

Could it be that G is updating some aspect of the ranking that requires an iterated calculations on the real (or live) database? So the drop in SERPs we're seing is G clearing a variable, or taking it out of the ranking algo. We then return to a place close to our old position when G recalculates/enables the variable again.

Probably not as even I can come up with a better way to do this than actually clearing a column in the database and disrupting all rankings while some calculation is done.

Ah, the mysteries of G, I'm suprised that there's so few conspiracy theories about the runnings of that company.

Well, I got slaughtered. The site is five years old and has held stable top ten positions for years. :(

I really hope you are right Weirfire because it is affecting my Adsense. This looked like being the best month ever but over the last couple of days I am back to where I was two months ago on daily average.

too many people are experiencing bad results, it could be that they are using an old set of results. Not sure but a large majority are noticing very bad results.

    Hi

Haven't posted on this forum before, but I'm looking for info regarding this google problem. Noticed this morning that my site isn't showing for any of our keywords at all. All the pages still seem to be in the index but not showing for the keywords that it was. I also notice that for all the keywords I've tried so far, the top 10 is totally changed. This hasn't happened before, and alot of people here seem to be saying it's temporary, so I was wondering if anyone has any further info that might put my mind at rest? It looks like a complete change in the algorythm, but I don't see how all of my pages would completely fall out if that was the case

    Thanks

    Welcome to the forums indepth,

As far as most people are concerned here, we are just going to ride this out and see if anything changes by tomorrow.

Well, its improved from yesterday. Google has a habit of making a series of small changes. I wouldn't really panic or worry just yet.

It would have to be a very old set of results. I was in top position for some of the keywords I lost for the last three years. Maybe this shake up was intended to destabilise some of the sites that have 'owned' top spots in order to make the results more random.

Maybe when the dust settles you'll find that you are popping in and out of top positions more frequently because there will be more overall movement.

Hmm. Interesting that a site that creeped to #1 on my favorite term is now at #7 (I went from 4 to 6). They have been using strictly 3 way links since I've known about the site.

How often does Google change page ranks? I have a lot of inbound links and pretty good content and yet I have been stuck at 5 for a year.

    Maybe off-topic but just curious.

Every quarter or so. Pr5 to Pr6 is a big jump though.. much harder than 4 to 5. Also note: your pagerank is updated much more frequently than what you can see on the Toolbar. Those links are taken into account, but G chooses only to update the public display of this data every few months.

    Thanks VBMechanic.

I usually use the Toolbar to get my pagerank for all of my pages. Is there a better way to know your actual rank or is it only in Google's hands.
