Keep repeating "there is nothing going on..." "Google does not dance..." "nothing but normal fluctuations..."

I did a quick check using McDar's tool and I'm getting different results across datacenters. Some old, some new. New results all suck.

    vBMechanic,

There is definately something going on! I have decided to start referring to this as the "Google October 2005 Event".

BUT a Google Dance was a very specific occurance that stopped a few years back.

Google use to only re-evaluate pages/ rankings/ placement approximately ONCE a month.

That is, If you were in position number 50 after a Google Dance, you would remain in that position until the NEXT Google Dance.

NOTHING changed in the meantime. So you would work real hard and then wait to see where Google placed you after the next Dance.

Now days we can see movement virtually anytime - thus "Everflux".

What is going on right now is definately NOT "Everflux".

I think Google is having "problems" again.

The strange results (ie - the bad ones where might sites rank about 500 places lower) seem to be bouncing around all over the place, different DCs almost each time I check.

I'm seeing 'normal' rankings on the majority of DCs, but a few are showing me 100+ lower and others are showing me 300->500+ lower and sometimes returning one of my subpages for my main keyphrase, rather than the homepage as it should (and use to) do.

For those not experiencing this - count yourselves lucky. This is not looking good (from where I'm sitting).

At WMW, they're calling this the "Bacon Polenta Update" :D Referring to the debacle with Matt Cutt's blog where the blackhats took over his ranking for content phrases and knocked him out with dupe penalties.

"The Dance" seems like the good old days compared to this back and forth nonsense. I'm not going to be one of those idiots that predicts the death of Google because they start serving different results, but honestly the new results don't look that hot.

I have extensive documentation of this same sort of thing happening last February/March.

Google Eventually "ironed" things out and all returned to normal.

Here is a peak of the results for the same page that I showed above...

NOTE:The page was stable @ #5 and Allinanchor #2 The on Feb 3rd the Datacenters began to "boil".

The positions reported ar for 4 different times 2PM, 5PM, 7PM, and 11:30PM on the same day - February 3rd, 2005.

In this February 2005 Event Google finally started to settle down about late March.

Something strange is definitely happening. One of my sites was consistently ranking between 11-20. Here's a sampling:

    66.102.11.104 - 15
    66.249.87.104 - 11

This probably just means the tracker isn't working. For me, it's showing all zeroes currently. (edit: it WAS showing all zeros and N/A - just checked again and I'm now getting data again)

If you want to see what is going on with your sites, try either http://www.mcdar.net/q-check/datatool.asp or http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools .

I wish it were just the tracker not working. I said in my post, I thought it was an error with the tracker so I went to Google and checked myself. Some of those Keywords have had #2 to #6 position for about 6 months, consistently. Today, they appear nowhere - although I admit I gave up the manual check after about page 40

That may be true, depending on how you define "new" and "old". One of the sites I'm monitoring is only a few months old - no changes on that one at all.
