You think Baidu is the next google?

While China is a populus country - 1.4 billion.
It only has around 140 million people with access to the internet.

With the way things are going, i don't see google being too competitive in the Chinese internet market. Also i do not think it is possible for baidu to expand internationally.

 

With 1.4 billion people in China, Baidu doesn't have to expand anywhere.

However, to entertain your comment, Google is not tops in Japan and Baidu is going after all Asian markets including Japan. Second, ONLY 140 million? With the rate of increase, you really should do some projections and see how that fits with your business model.

If Chinese is not your cup of tea (no pun intended), then no big deal. But we cannot ignore the Chinese market and pretend it is unimportant (25% of world population). Make a conscious decision to blow it off, but don't downplay it. I, personally, have many reasons for going after every market except the Chinese market. However, I freely admit that I am probably making a big mistake. I only have 34 Chinese domain names as a small hedge bet.

 

I don't think google will be dethroned by another search engine.

It will be beaten by something else.

 

Dethroned? It is not King in Asia. Do you mean in the US market? If so, I agree that it will take something else to dethrone Google in the US.

You Tube or silly teenage girls?

 

Videos, YouTube for keyword advertising. For example, 100 people (this vid wasnt advertised) searched for porn with terms - two girls sleep and found this vid. - probably more then 100 but approx

Regarding YT, it is just another type of content, yes?

I get it. Seems that this would be good for all extensions but best for .tv extensions. What do you think? I like the idea, though! However, your example makes me a bit uncomfortable. No big deal, I guess.

Yup. I have several good dot TV domains and was told to make sure to include video and use YT. Would you agree?

i think baidu will never overtake google.. it should be in pure english first before more people can access it.

 

Is there a english version of baidu.com? If not, they should obviously consider releasing english version to catch international traffic.
