    Advertising (learn more)

Advertise virtually anything here, with CPM banner ads, CPM email ads and CPC contextual links. You can target relevant areas of the site and show ads based on geographical location of the user if you wish.

Starts at just $1 per CPM or $0.10 per CPC.

You can get indexed with DP's "location" field

    Ok,
    I tested this...
    I bought improvingcode.com...
Did not put any links anywhere, no submissions to search engines or anything...
added "www.improvingcode.com" to the location field (as you can see next to my name in this post)...
Now google has indexed (the 1 page) of the domain...

Weird thing is, google "tarponkeith" ( my username ) and the site shows up, even though my user name isn't on that site...

Conclusion: I don't understand Google or SEO at all, haha....

Anyone want to clue me in, as to why the site was indexed, even though it's not a link?

Google simply found out. Just because you do not point a link to a site doesn't mean that Google won't find it. The location thing is not a link- it is simply plain text

I didn't think that it would work because it's not hyperlink? It's the same as me saying dfojfjsdfsfadjdjfodsfjdsjl.com and then that domain getting indexed :S

Maybe your username got indexed because you have a profile link and many posts.

Google has to find 1 out 600 of your posts, and when it searches your profile it found the text www.ImprovingCode.com in your Location spot.

Are you use browser with Google toolbar installed, or any extension to browser fo checking PageRank?
And are you visited your domain with this browser?
If your answer is Yes, this might be the reason that google indexes your domain.

If Iimprovingcode.com links to a site, which has an old style referrer log.
