I was once (shortly after my divorce) 24 hours away from having a meeting with the repo man for my house. I was at the top of my overdraft, in major arrears on the mortgage and with only £30 cash to my name. I went to the Casino with £20 and won, not a vast amount but enough to make a payment on the debt and stop the visit. I then sat down and looked hard at my life, made some drastic adjustments and within 12 months I had no arrears on the mortgage, had my overdraft at a reasonable level and never looked back. But I was very close to the edge until I got the win. However, that was years ago and happily I am now in a better financial position.
I've been broke before, and I'm glad I was. You don't understand the value of being rich if you've never been poor. Personal philosophy of mine.
I'm 23 in high schoo; money was a problem now evrything is good I have a loan for my car but it's like 400$/month so not mutch truble
I highly agree with this statement, it adds more "value" on the dollar for you. Kind of like how I worked at a labour job for 2 weeks (some food place Tim Hortons) and then finally learnt the value of $$... $8 / hr for so much work.. comparing to working online (which can take 10 minutes).. The intention was.. to see how it felt like how much people earn a $ (at my age)
I agree 100%. You never forget the worst time of your life. If you do forget, you might end up back at the bottom again. Being rich (or at least close) will be sweeter than if I'd never gone bust. Note: You can always learn from the mistakes of others, and not have to actually go broke yourself.
I've been broke but from listening to "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" I learned a great quote: "Being broke is temporary, being poor is permanent."
There are MANY times when I am broke. Yes I have a savings but it is only for personal things that I need in my life. If I have no money in my seperate bank account for my websites or online businesses I try to boworrow it. I have not found one person to loan me more than 5 bucks. But then again I don't boworrow much.
A few years ago, as a student, I was broke and even my friends were broke. So we all joined the same club and the experience wasn't so terrible...
I went broke when me and my friend tried out an ambitious project without capital and requisite knowledge. It was a perfect recipie for disaster and it took a long time to recover.
Well,I have been broked in the past. But I could be taken care of by my home people. So I did not feel the pinch badly.
Yeah! I am totally broke at this moment after being tempted to buy a new Nintendo Wii recently. So I am still pondering if I should sell it or not to get back the cash. Anyone advise? Broke AM
Never sell anything (under $1K). Keep your Wii, play it and be happy. Happy = productive = $$$. Welcome to DP BTW.
sometimes i feel broke.. like not having spending money.. Sometimes i might not have money to buy good food but yet i got a 46inch 1080p lcd 2 computers , a house thats paid for and a suv and car paid for.. Kind of ghetto isnt it?
Most of us don't have the faintest clue what "broke" really is (myself included). Yeah we're so broke that we can't go out and blow $100 on a night out - but we have a nice home, nice car, a warm dry bed, a fridge full of crappy food, running water, and even our very own flushing toilet. Take away just one of those things and most of us would be totally lost.
i agree, no one truely understands what broke really is intill the completely hit bottom. myself, i've never been that broke and i'm doing everything posible to never be that broke.. but low on cash is different and i'm definatly low on cash
When it comes to borrowing money i was going to borrow $10 today myself. Basically i could not wait to buy this script and i was $10 short. I could not use my other paypal addy nor a credit card for accounting reasons. Who cars if people borrow... As long as they pay back its all good
