How do I record music I'm listening to on the web?

Discussion in 'Graphics & Multimedia' started by txwebdesign, Jul 3, 2007.

Is there a way to record music that is playing via a website onto my hard-drive? If so, what softare do I need - Windows Media Player? Flash?

I tried using my "Sound Recorder" in Windows accessories but it had a lot of background noise also.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Yes. There is. But it depends on what you are trying to record, so I can't be more specific.

I use the HotKey Sound Recorder, it records anything coming through your sound card. You can record midis as MP3s etc.

I would use acid pro 4 (yes.. it's a pricey program though) but they can record the sounds played in the computer only (so no background noise)

is the music in flash file or is it just music running in the background? If its the second you can view the source code and look for the file path and possibly just download it from the file path

I use StreamRipper (it's free!) for capturing live streams and internet radio.

And Wavelab for pinching Flash sounds.

Audacity! Brilliant program, and won't cost you a dime! Very well known and respected program for what it is, and works great for what you need. (I've just been using it for the same thing just now.)

Here's a link if you need:

    Good luck,

I used Audacity, and it's really a very good software and very easy to use as well. Although I had no idea if it can record music playing on the web. I just did some editting only.

    Hi, everyone.
If the music you want to record is in flash or on any website, you might use a streaming audio recorder to record it straightly. As far as I know, there are a lot of programs for us to record music streaming on the websites. So you will know how to record Spotify or Grooveshark music. Please note that you don't have rights to redistribute the music with copyrights.

Late to join you. But they might be good tutorials for members here.

Just a question, but why would you want to record the music from the net? That would take an incredible amount of time (especially if the music is extremely long). I recommend just getting it from your cache.

Audacity is a great free software that records every sound that plays out your computer, it even has a tool to remove the clicking sound
