It's a mix of buying all those players with buying the best manager! Real Madrid have been buying mega stars for years but haven't won the league every year. It'll be interesting to see how Chelsea get on in the next 5 years!
I wouldn't mind seeing either Liverpool again or Chelsea for the first time lifting the Champions League trophy, while the other wins in England. In the rest of Europe entertaining the public means winning, not playing some creative football (excluding Madrid). I would suggest excluding Yanks from this thread
Real Madrids problem is they spend money of attacking players and very little on defenders. Ok, they bought woodgate but he is a crock and they will be lucky to get 15 games out of him a season.
I'm sorry, but if you spend £150 million pounds on players, you would at least expect them to play a better game. Yeah, fair enough Chelsea are winning and are number 1 in the league by a long shot, but if I'd just spent 150 mil on players I would expect a WHOLE lot more from them. All they do is defend, defend, defend...It's boring as hell. I've been an Arsenal supporter since I popped out the womb, so maybe that is why my words are bitter...But no one else stands a chance. Jose Mourinho spent more money on buying ONE player, than the whole entire Arsenal team are worth. It's ridiculous, and people like him and money are ruining the great game that is football. Anyway...unlucky Liverpool.
As an Arsenal fan you can hardly criticise Chelsea for defending. This was the whole tactic to Arsenals game before the 3 points per win system came into play. Have you ever read Nick Hornbys "Fever Pitch"? It's a fantastic book by an Arsenal fanatic and even he was dissappointed with Arsenals game at times.
Yup and we got critised to f*ck for it, with non stop chanting 'Boring Boring Arsenal'.. So now I'm just saying Boring, Boring Chelsea. Altho I doubt they very much care, coz they are winning. Liverpool didn't stand a chance.
It's strange because we should have actually won the game on Wednesday after the handball in the box and then a completely different game on the Sunday. It'll be interesting to see what the away Champions League game brings.
I hope all British teams keep on winning in their groups, and maybe a win for the Reds against Chelsea to compensate last sunday's loss.
Personally I'm waiting for the Chelsea v Barcelona match, if its as good as last seasons it will be terrific to watch.
lol you're probably right.... especially if our star striker is found guilty of hitting small boys in public parks.
You can always get Owen back from Newcastle, he would be eligible for the Champions League, but he was paid silly money to Real Madrid and it might be too expensive for Liverpool. Amazingly Newcastle managed to splash out a fortune for him to a club such as Real Madrid that is regularly ripped off by everyone (except for Newcastle), only Chelsea are even more ripped off and prices increase as soon as that team name comes up. Owen should have been back replacing a spaniard. I already hate foreign managers but even more if they bring in all those foreign players!
I'd like to go back to the subject. Owen is a fantastic guy and a great player, what makes me angry is the spaniards getting all that money, particularly because those spaniards, Real Madrid, are the ones that usually get ripped off as they have the money. I would be delighted to see Owen in top shape playing upfront alongside Rooney in the world cup, don't get me wrong and think Owen was not worth the money, it's Real Madrid that grabbed an unexpected price for him, being desperate to get rid of him. There's still Woodgate that was a great deal, I hope nobody in England is going to want him back for a silly price, all that is needed is to wait patiently and he'll be back for peanuts and he'll play well in England alright! Rule Britannia!
Bearing in mind my team where the only ones to beat them last season (man city) I doubt very much that some small team like Liverpool could do anything
