What's to prevent negative reputation spamming?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by WagerX, Jul 1, 2007.

I noticed that the "reputation" given by other members doesn't have the origin of the person giving the rep. At least in itrader we know who's giving it.

So what's to stop someone from spamming negative reputations? It kind of seems like an anon way to give you a slap on the face without any accountability.

Just my 2 cents (feedback) :)

    Cheers!

Why don't you use the search feature, or maybe even read the "reputation faq" before starting threads like this,

This has been discussed 10000000000000000000000 times

It also costs the user who gives you the negative rep a -1 on their rep points.

    Hi,
They cant really spam them at you because they have to wait a certain amount of time before giving you more rep. As MaryMary said, they get a red rep as a cost in giving one out. So they are automatically retaliated with a red rep. It doesn't work that way with giving green as far as getting what you give. However, holding true, no matter which color rep is given, you will have to wait a certain amount of time before giving it to that person again.

Of course, there is nothing preventing people from getting their friends to beat you up with red. I was reading a thread on here the other day about somebody getting their friends to register here and do things that are against the rules just so they could benefit from it. (like bumping threads and passing out reps).

As Sundaybrew mentioned, there's lots of info on this forum regarding most of our questions. Here is a link to a pinned thread with a few guidelines on Reputation

    Good luck!!

Thanks for the info! I did check the "reputation faqs" before posting. I guess I didn't read it carefully enough to see the details.

    It now seems more reasonable.

    Cheers!

    In short:

Giving a negative rep, costs you a negative rep.

The more you give, the more you get.

Collect enough bad rep and you will get banned.

Not true, Reputation has nothing to do with your banning.
    Infractions does.

You can harvest -1000 reputation points but it wont cause you a ban (Ask Fryman)
However, only 10 infraction points will get you banned.

That just means that two people disliked/disagreed with two separate things you've said. I've gotten good rep from more then one post, and there really is very little difference other the red/green thing, the points, and the reasoning behind giving the reps to begin with...no wait, there is a huge difference I guess, but still, what did you expect, all your bad rep coming from the same post?

    Very True.

My 2 cents is to live and learn.
1st - read the FAQ's (so you can learn to live a bit longer here at DP)
2nd - practice makes perfect. Even the most ancient DP users get banned. If you do a search on Anthony C. You will learn. :D

No. What i'm saying is people who want to give neg rep for a post find another post you have made and give neg rep on that one to hide thier identity even further.

For example i recieved two consecutive negative reps on This post 3 hours appart, Four days after i made the post.

Interestingly it was when i was having this discussion

There are time limits and other factors involved, so they were given by different people (which I guess makes it worse).

And it's not a matter of hiding their identity, it's a matter of the rep even counting. In General Chat & it's sub forums, rep does not count, so a certain few assholes will click your post count and zap you in another location.

It's because THEY can't handle being themselves so they thing they have something to prove by showing they are better then the rest of us by abusing a system put in place to stop the very people doing that. IMHO, they need to get a mod in religion & politics that's like the Chef on Hells Kitchen as that would either straighten them out or shut them down. Either way there would be less turmoil & drama here at Digital Point.

I run occult & religious forums & sites, it's my niche, and I'll not touch Religion & Politics here due to the petty behavior of a few individuals that refuse to play like adults. it's VERY VERY sad in my opinion...
