if a .com.au (Australia) domain is hosted on an American server (hostgator) will it be indexed for Google in Australia (google.com.au) ??

Oh cool thanks for that because I actually run a hosting service which servers located in America but someone who has a .com.au domain gets a lot of traffic from Google.com.au and don't want to switch if it will result in losing traffic from there, thanks :)

I'm saying probably, as I bet that over half the .com.au domains are hosted in the US due to ridiculous hosting charges in Australia (damn telstra). Maybe overseas sites hosted in Australia are also included, as I see a few .com's in with Aussie results

I just did a quick search at both google.com and google.com.au for one of my clients .com.au domain names - Just 1 simple search on the .com and it turned up 7th in the SERPS but the .com.au came in at #2

A 2nd search was less valid - it came in at #1 in both tests.

I don't think it matters - just do your SEO correctly and it will get indexed.

I certainly would not be putting any of my AU domains on Au servers, I just ain't rich enough - just consider that a 1G/15gig hosting account on an au servr costs in the order of $50 a month it just doesn't make economical sense to me when you can spend less than $5 to get that on a US based server.

    A late reply.

I have many .com.au websites hosted on eu and us servers and have no problems with indexing.

I agree the rates in OZ are ridiculous and sooner Telstra is out the door the better. They way they going and with new technology coming, they will diminish as a force here in OZ before long.

LOL...Think again!! They will be here for as long as there is a need for Telco's.
Telstra's new direction coming shortly will completely blow their competitors away. All because of the recent shift in ownership percentage. In other words, watch this space!!

How do I know this?? I used to work for them and a little birdy told me some things about what's coming.

    Col :)

    Yeah I agree telstra suck.

    Look at there fees:
    .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info
    Length:2 years
    Registration Fee: $85.00
    Management Fee: $12.50 per month

Works out to $117.50 for a year for a .info
When I can get it for $1.21 at Godaddy, thats a saving of $116.29!!!

    Yes it will.

    I have sexythings.com.au.

When I first launched it years ago I had a PR of 1 after only a few weeks. Site was reborn a few times and is now back up and running. My PR is 0 again, but it will be back.
