Does google count a link page from an exchange

Does google count a link from a link exchange site the same as a link from any other site or is it clever enough to relise you have had the link from an exchange and thus decrease the value of the link.

And at a guess how many links do you need to be in the top ten for a standard two word keyword phrase.

depends on the comnpetition of that phrase, I have a site that only haves 10 backlinks and is #1.
An other site with a more populair keyword haves more then 1000 backlinks and is still ranked #4.

So its very hard to say, I think google threads the links from the coop network as each link

I currently registered about 40 links through a link agency, and about 11 show in G.

I am 8th, so it look promising.

    Here is a question.

How on earth do we figure out how many links google has actually acknowledged. I've started to disbelieve the results I often get back from the google toolbar or by doing a manual query. If these numbers are correct google is ignoring as much as 90% or more of exchanges you might expect the average person to initiate and follow through with.

    Any insights?

Any are welcome on this one.

A link from a website with which you made an exchange, count much less than a one-way link. That's the catch :)

Evidence? It's a speculation, maybe true maybe not.

    :)

You cannot check links with Google. Google sees all the links. If you do a "link:" you only get some kind of random of a few they know about. I don't know why, maybe to confuse webmasters :) .

Use MSN to check links, it is the best.

I use Yahoo to see back links (e.g. link:yoursite - include h t t p) and it shows pretty much all of them.

Trouble is that it's Google I want to impress... (beginning to lose faith a little!)

Although link exchanges are not equal to 1 way links, do they still rank well with Google, Yahoo and Bing?

The problem with link exchanges is that you are linking out to someone who will link to anyone. And the chances are that, knowing more than you do, they will drop your link or they will link into a bad neighbourhood and get you penalised. Link exchanges are high risk if you are the honest party. We believe that links are just links and that Google relies on natural attrition to sort the good from the bad. We also believe that the value of a link lies in the length of time its been in place.

What about if the link exchange is a part of a membership where this instance will not happen?

This is real confusion. So far, no body can be able to understand Google algorithm. Currently, I came to know about change in the Google algorithm. We can say that there is no winner in the Google Search War.
