Maybe a stupid question. Would this be a website where you would workout while sitting down? :)

No question is stupid and that is a good idea how many of us set infront of this PC almost 3/4 of our day with little or no exercise and then have to attempt to squeeze a workout session in somewhere.

good idea. Design the program and build a website first, then think how to promote your site. See the response and adjust along the way. good luck.

He needs to find a market first.

Then build the site to appeal to his target market.

yea, the simplest option would be to use a traffic website that sends you content related traffic. its a good way to get the ball rolling..

autoresponders could also be useful. Get people to sign up for their 7-day fitness workout and schedule a different email to be sent to them each day?

This could be used to send them samples of the course, together with links so they can sign up and get the entire course.

Alternatively, get an ebook compiled with some fitness tips, that's got branding for your site throughout. Give this out free of charge on discussion forums, usenet, etc, etc.

With this product, I think many casual visitors may be unsure as to what they'd be getting (as I am!), so a free taster in onw way or another would be advisable to get and maintain their interest.
