Is exchanging links allowed for Google? Becase I see they dont like people buying and selling links but how do they feel about people exchanging links?
Will they penalise me for it?
Site in question is spudmud . com

People are getting Google paranoid around here after Matt Cutts recent 'grass on paid links' blog post. Carry on exchanging your links - Google need never find out - despite what they'd like to think they don't own the web.

No, they just will less weight to two-way (reciprocal) links. In my opinion, a reciprocal link is better than no link so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Getting one way links and reciprocal links from web sites that relate to yours would be best.

So would it be wise to remove my references to a reciprocal link exchange on my website?

Link exchanges can be good for boosting traffic, google is not the be all and end all - there is other traffic out there.

I posted for a link exchange with a blog of mine in May and have doubled it's traffic - in April it had 10k uniques, so far this month it has 19k. I exchanged with around 20 other DP members.

I have only seen positive results from this exercise, and that includes Google too.

hey but there is the 3 way linking system...right?

If: A->B->C & C does not link to A everything is fine.

I don't think Google can read our e-mails and PM's. Am I wrong?!?

Although, the best links are comming from other planets or even solar systems.

Google don't like it but it doesn't really affect you. If everyone links to you and you don't link to any of them. They are the only ones that will lose out.
