    Hi guys,
What do you think about favicons? Do they do any good? Will they make a better impression on users? :)
I am thinking about adding a favicon to my site but I am not sure about it. Well if it won't make me any good, it won't harm... Or would it? :)
    Thanks

I love them. Think they are a little something extra. They are not witihout problems for from time to time they disappear from your toolbar. I like to brand my sites any way I can. Will look up url for favicon maker I use. http://www.favicon.co.uk/ Ulead Photo Impact makes them as well. Quality is not as good as those made with firstt referenced.

I have found high contrast colors show up better.

If you have a logo for your site already, you should be able to just crop part of this using something like Paintshop Pro, or Photoshop, then resize it.

I then copy this and paste it into iconedit32

... save it as favicon, and upload it - job done.

Usually only takes around 10mins and is great from a branding point of view. As has been said before, if a visitor has bookmarked a load of similar sites, yours is going to stand out much more.

I could never get a favicon to work with my phpbb forums.
Is there anything special you have to do to get it to work with phpbb?

iconsurf drives extremely minimal traffic to my site (two referals this week) but every hit counts, and it's one more reason to have a favicon for your site (if you still need one).
