I Want Help Monetizing AndreRison.com

    Hi all-

Andre Rison is a friend of mine and I recently took over management of his site. We're making a push for him to get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which you'll see when you visit.

Additionally, I'd like to know how else I can monetize the site. We're investigating affiliate programs right now, and the adsense hasn't amounted to much so we're probably scrapping that.

the site is still well under construction, and much much more content will be added, but any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated so we can keep the page kickin'.

    Thanks all in advance,
    UK

    Sorry, URL is www.AndreRison.com.

Just changed the site from HTML to PHP so all my #1 rankings might fall briefly, but will be back. PR2 as of now.

Any ideas? Someone mentioned to me StubHub affiliate program, to try to get some ticket sales....

I kinda followed Andre's career (I am from Michigan and got my engineering degree in his hometown, Flint) but I am not sure if you can do much to monetize this site based on traffic as he is not in the limelight anymore.

You might try getting the PR up to PR5 or higher and then sell text links on the site.

Absolutely not true. You can monetize this site, but it will take a reasonable budget to redesign it, SEO, and market it.
There is no reason the rules are different. If anything you have more options open to you.
What you are looking to do amounts to a web marketing campaign.
    It can be done.
IT depends on your budget, and commitment, but it is possible.
Very possible. and in doing so draw attention to his Hall of Fame Agenda.

You guys have no imagination at all.

Adsense is not the way to go.
A complete waste of time for you, and it cheapens the site.

My head is spinning with ideas,
I can't believe what I am seeing in this thread.
You guys need to get up, stretch your legs, and let some of that college education and ingenuity kick in.

    Text links?
    Come on.

Well I have tested hundreds of topics for traffic, SEM, and PPC and I kinda know what generates traffic. I've also spent plenty on SEM so I know what can be done with a marketing budget.

And here's what Google trends said about the topics of this site:
So let's here some of those ideas that are spinning in your head.

First of all, I completely respect what you have said, based on the tools you have used which is why the "same old crap" like adsense is a waste of time, but, there is sooo, much more to marketing than what Google say's.
and many more ways to get traffic OFFLINE.
    Hello!!!!!
The man is a pro football player.

Stop thinking in terms of what Google say's is possible and start thinking about the out side world and what is really possible.
You are thinking to limited, you need to get out of your chair on this one, and walk outside.

Sorry, I have a big mouth, but I make a living thinking differently than everyone else, I am not about to share that much:)

This might sound horrible but it may work. From what I read Andre is facing some really tough financial times recently. If you can take advantage of that exposure you might be able to drive traffic to your site.

I have his football card (actually a professor awarded it to me as a prize out of a general pack of cards... pretty funny story.) I don't think Irvin should have been in there.

Adsense sends me 4 to 5 digit deposits every month not exactly "same old crap" and if you know more about marketing than Google, count me in on the IPO.

There are thousands of pro football players.

You appear to be blowing smoke. Offer some concrete advise or examples. Any one can say "go outside", "walk around", or "think outside the box", "peel back the onion", "pull your own strings", but all that does is get naive people's hopes up (and maybe makes a bestseller based on fools being parted from their money).

BTW, your homepage needs to have the template images sized properly, squeezing images down via IMG attributes was OK in 1996 and get your PR above 3 before telling other to redesign and do SEO work.

    Anyways, offer some concrete advise or we can assume you are bluffing. {insert insincere smiley face here}

Been over a year so I thought I'd report back on what's happened to the site. I haven't put much time into the site in the last year, but one affiliate program that's been kicking butt for me is StubHub. I don't even display the ad prominently and I'm doing hundreds per month in affiliate commissions. Not too bad for a site with limited traffic for a retired player. Also, I'm getting more sign-ups for his hall of fame push. We're looking at selling autographed cards and even some t-shirts down the line once we get over 10,000 sign-ups.

Mansfield and others, thanks for your comments. If anyone has any recommendations, I'm all ears.

    Best,
    UK

Great for you. But Adsense is becoming the lowest payout program around. Why waste thousands of visitors clicking ads, when millions of dollar are spent online buying products and services, with a higher payout per sale than an adsense click? That is just my preference.

He seems to have something that is working, he should definitely stick with it.

Secondly, I could care less about page rank, (which site were you referring to anyway ?) what really matters is if the traffic is buying or not.

My whole point was to say that everyone will not make money the same way, you need to find what is going to work for you. That may entail bombing on a few different programs until you find the one the suites you, but it is not the same for everyone.

    tbarr60: I notice you are quick to tell of your adsense earnings, but not how you earn, which unfortunately is the nature of forums. Very few, (if any) people will tell you step by step how they make money, for fear of you infringing on their little niche. I didn't think this would be a "who's got the biggest" contest, {insert sarcastic eye rolling here}

It is good that you have found a nice source of income is stub hub, I use them myself. American Idol Tour Tickets have been hot this summer.
Thanks for the update, and keep at it, the more you learn, the better it gets.

there are dozen of ways to make money from that site, but I agree with the other poster, you need to think outside the box

affiliate programs, adsense text links, you are selling yourself WAAAAYYY short

and although there are 1000s of pro football players, thats the point there are ONLY 1000s, not many folk get to make that claim

celebrity is created, I ecourage you to do some studying on branding and what power that brings

he could be 80, in a wheelchair and have no arms....and you could still use his previous name to your advantage

I encourage you to hire someone with some real marketing knowlege because google does NOT know marketing, they know how to sell advertising on a search engine....BIG DIFFERENCE

Get the book written by my mentor

    Guerrilla Marketing Handbook

He is the #1 marketer in history...he trains me (and sorry there is no IPO) yes he knows more than Google and its documented

then go get another good book

selling the invisible by harry beckwith

lastly, don't expect million dollar advice for free and from a place where 90% of the people are not even making $50 a month from websites

its my mentors book...not mine...i dont get a dime from it

it is simple the best out there...and thats a proven fact, not hyperbole

but hey...if you don't want advice from the number one marketer in the world....for about 20 bucks...i guess thats not what your looking for ;)

So businesscoach, you have Jay Conrad Levinson and Seth Godin as your personal mentors or is it the guys that first marketed tap water as bottled water at 1000 times cost?
