Well, I put forward this question to all proxy site owners here : Which countries to block ? Not all countries have good conversion for adsense or similar programs and not to forget the nasty spammers of China... Currently, I've Iran and China blocked using GeoIP PHP extension. BTW, If you'd like to learn about a simple and effective way to block unwanted traffic (not that boring .htaccess method folks!), please read my tutorial : Block Traffic by Country
I block all of Asia, Africa, South America and some of Eastern Europe. 90% of my traffic comes from the UK and US. Keeps Adversal happy.
i block iran and other middle east countries and china as well.. i read ur tutorial and it was a really nice one... will install it when i get my VPS> added some reps for it
Thanks... Hmm...that gives me an indication...thanks Well, I mean what I said. Love traffic for no reason? Love people abusing your proxies for fraud and illegal stuff like spamming (mainly china)? I guess you love to pay for bandwidth and server resources for no conversion and earning!
Oh KGL...I guess you have enough free time to manually find and edit IP ranges to block though .htaccess. Fast and affordable...is that what you want? Well, then my solution is completely free and takes 10 minutes to setup...no maintenance needed later! Care to share the countries you block for your proxies?
Alright, I'm not trying to rain on your parade or piss on your thread, so don't get snippy. Blocking IP ranges with .htaccess is about as quick and affordable as it gets, it's not only affordable, it's FREE. I don't need, "enough free time to manually find and edit IP ranges to block though .htaccess", all I need is 30 seconds, if that. I have a default .htaccess file saved on my PC that I use for every proxy I upload. The file contains the IP ranges for some of the usual suspects, Iran, China, etc. The first thing you're gonna want to do is check out this site for a list of TLD extensions, then once you know the extension of the country that you want to block, ex: IN = India, you then go to this site to find your IP ranges. Having said that, you can block by just TLD extension if you want to. If you don't know how to add the IP ranges, etc. to your .htaccess file, just go here, or search for something of the like on Google. Initially it's a little bit of work, but once you create the file all you have to do is just upload it everytime you create a new proxy, it takes all of 30 seconds and you don't need any special server side garbage to do it. If you found this informative, show me some green love.
Ok...nothing gained by debating whether .htaccess or geoip module is better. I am looking for some suggestion on blocking specific countries by name, eg - China, Iran and suggest more.
Hello, For my websites I, due to bad conversion of the advertisement on my website I am blocking the following countries. Eastern Asia ------ South Korea Macao SAR China Hong Kong SAR China Japan Taiwan China Southern Asia ------ Iran India Pakistan Nepal Bhutan Sri Lanka Maldives South-Eastern Asia -------- Malaysia Thailand Philippines Indonesia Singapore Vietnam Brunei Western Asia ------ Saudi Arabia Kuwait Turkey Israel Oman Lebanon Bahrain Syria Though there are other countries you might want to block such as some African countries. Maybe someone else could advice us on this. Personally I believe creating a .htaccess document is the easiest and fastest way to block visitors from certain countries. Specially if you use the service provided by blockacountry.com. On this website you can select which countries you want to block and then this site generates a .htaccess file for you ready to upload. Enjoy, Wildcard
Hi wildcard, since you blocked all those countries have you had any good conversions recently? Is your adsense account still smart price?
No really smart, is it? If you already use GeoIP why don't you hammer visitors from those countries with pop-ups etc? You make more money on those than on the myspace kids.
I have had problems with asian countries looking at porn. Its not a bad thing, but it eats the shit out my bandwidth. And I have to check the sites they are searching often to make sure there is no kiddie. And lets just say some of they stuff they look at isn't exactly pleasing.
if i get the load-down here correctly, proxies are not exactly the cash machines i was once made to believe it was. well,i just launched my own proxy at lumbic.com and it has been getting phenomenal amount of traffic, but no clicks.this is really bad. according to agnivo007,he says he has blocked some countries, but that has not improve his earnings.so what is the point blocking them anyway?
