    Yes, it IS.

Appropriate posts in a sales thread are:

    Questions for seller.
    Responses by seller.
    Negotiations.

Anything ELSE these threads are eligible for infraction. If you see such thread, use the report button.

When the thread is +8 hours old and i need to update the info what to do then ?

I don't see any solution other than making a post

    why ?

people who read the thread when it was made, won't look to the first post again since they already know the info there but they just subscribe to the thread to get notifications by e-mail when the thread Has new posts either from the seller or other potential buyers

If you really have something useful to add then I don't see a reason why you should get an infraction. Mods aren't stupid, they do know what a bump and a normal post is. If you just want to 'update' your auction status then it's a pure bump.

I do agree that some of these are going overboard, yes. But you also need to look at the mass amount of work the mods have and consider how hard it is to control things around here. I have seen this place go downhill since it started, mainly because now the masses have taken over and it's no longer the overall quality info place it once was.

    Look like bumps to me.

It's all about how it's spun. I know myself and the other mods try and look at the big picture and dont hand out infractions for no reason. The context and users history are important - as is the method and attitude used to question an infraction.

    Two points here.

    1. A long-standing DP member's honesty is questioned.

    2. If a mod doesn't like your attitude you're stuffed.

There must be higher moderation standards IMO.

    What are you talking about?

    That’s ridiculous.

Honestly don't know what you expect. Rather than just blindly following the guidlines we use our judgement.

In relation to attitude - it's no different than real life. Come off like a jerk and that's how you'll be treated. Show some respect and it will be shown to you.

Have you given him one now!

If you need to update the info you should in signature or link sales thread you need to do it after 8 or 14 hours

If you are posting info for each hour then it may be called as bumping a thread!

Rod, Lets set the record straight. You have received no infractions.

Warnings and infractions are issued by mods/admins. Warnings are denoted by yellow cards, and infractions red cards.

Rep can be given by any member of DP.

Yes, I did get an infraction once for asking a seller a question in the thread rather than by PM.

And since starting this thread I have received three red reps.

Reps are "points of view" from the post readers

while infractions are "Reminders" from the forum staff for anyone to make him go to the guidelines page and read it again in case he missed something and they even let you be able to log in and post until you have 10 infraction points in the same time

and i went there 4 times and still alive and kicking :D

but you have to learn a lesson from time to time ;)

You received a warning, not an infraction.

    Warning = yellow.
    Infraction = red.

Considering you've never even received an infraction I don't how you can arrive at the conclusion the infraction system is flawed?

This isn't rocket science. It doesn't take a Harvard Ph.D. to discern between an intentional bump and a legitimate follow-up.

I understand the emotions. You start a thread and it sinks rapidly to page 2 or 3. Well, that's the way the game is played. DP is a "democratic" forum, and if our threads are not of sufficient interest to keep them on page one, those are the breaks of the game. Let it die. To "bump" it up to page one does an injustice to the thread starters whose threads are receiving enough interest to keep them alive.

By the way (personal pet peeve here), in my opinion the most notorious DP bumpers are a small minority of directory owners who reply to nearly every submission with meaningless comments — "all approved to date", "thanks for the submissions", etc. That, of course, keeps their directory offer artificially near the top of page one, even if it would otherwise die the natural death of declining interest.

(Sorry for the rant, but obvious bumps are very irritating to me.)

OK, all of the above has been understood. Most people can recognise a bump it seems, although I see ones every day that go unpunished. I started this thread in support of a friend (a senior DP member) who believed he had received an unfair infraction. Basically, his honesty was being called to question since a moderator assumed he was violating DP policy.

Perhaps the punishment needs to be tailored to fit the crime since a one-month suspension seems a bit harsh for a person who obviously makes his living via the forum. This eqautes to a huge monetary fine. Is that fair?

The fallacy here is there is no way a member other than a mod or Admin can see which posts have received infractions.
