Forum posting service - worth it?

I have a new forum with a great domain name that just got linked on Wikipedia. So far it is getting about one a user registration a day with almost zero advertising. As a result, I think this forum has a lot of potential.

Question: Is a forum posting service worth it? Have you ever had any success/failure with it?

I think users would definitely post and communicate with we other enormously if we had more activity going on. I think a forum posting service would give them that "kick start."

    Your thought please. Thanks! :)

I think it really depends on the subject. If you have a general topic like entertainment or video games, it might work. Many of the "employees" of these companies are young kids so if you have a forum on a specific topic like poker it won't go very well.

No its not worth it if you go to sell your site and some one finds out your site will be worth close to nothing

Good point about selling the site after.

I'd be using the posting service as a "kick start" for others to post.

It is good if you have the money for it. That's what I say.

Go for it. However simply remember that you get what you pay for. I have used a couple of services in the past and will give you a couple of recs wia PM if you wish. I will also give you a couple to avoid :)

Another thing that you have to do when you are paying for posting is to monitor it closely, and to give them specific instructions on what you are looking for. Tell them to target the specific forums that your site is based on and not the general ones. This will help build content based on the keywords that you are going to be targeting in the future.

Why would paid posting make your forum worthless?

Good content is good content PERIOD. Sure with paid posting you are not going to get the "community" of continued posters but that is not what it is used for. Paid posting is used for kick starting a dead forum or a new forum so that it "looks" busy and you build content for the SEs to crawl. Also it is buyer beware, that is one of those questions that any buyer would have to ask, and if it is paid I just would want to know which users were paid, how good were the posts, and what is the organic registration rate.

i also think that post plumbing works fine if its a general forum..but if its specific..like a univ forum..or forum for specialized fields like engg..then its better to ask friends and relatives etc to post and make it look active..

rather than getting a posting service here on dp look for like 10 moderators they will keep your site clean and do some posting for you for the same exact price and up the price when you get more users

If you're getting a new user every day with no advertising, then it will probably build itself without the need for any paid posts. You could do a referral competition or something and offer what you were going to pay for posts as prize money?

The average is about one registration per day. Currently there are about 10 members.

Would that kind of advertising work with such few members you think? Any experience with anything like this?

I paid for forum posting once, trust me it isn't worth it. You would be better making several accounts, and doing it yourself.
