Im curious what things are considered blackhat.....currently we just use article submissions and directorys etc....Building a ton of links from articles would never be a bad thing would it? and should never damage our ranking correct? Im a platinum status author on ezine and build a ton of links from it this is why im wondering.

    thanks!

Directory and article submissions are not considered Black Hat SEO by three of the four ethical tests I am familiar with.

The "unnatural rankings" test is too weird to be taken seriously. :D

Nah, article and directory submissions are not BlackHat. That's called good ol' fashioned link building.

Black Hat search engine optimization is customarily defined as techniques that are used to get higher search rankings in an unethical manner. These black hat SEO techniques usually include one or more of the following characteristics:

-breaks search engine rules and regulations
-creates a poor user experience directly because of the black hat SEO techniques utilized on the Web site
-unethically presents content in a different visual or non-visual way to search engine spiders and search engine users.

Nah. Don't look at it as unethically. Look at it as a different way to promote your website. It doesn't have to be unethical unless you view it as unethical.

Black hat SEO is not unethical. It's just another method for getting things done.

No, article submissions and directories are not blackhat. Steer clear of BH methods is the site is legit and not an MFA site or otherwise disposable. BH methods could have the reverse desired efffect on SEO and get you banned.

I want to make sure my link building methods are legit for when I come out of the sandbox.....all we use is directory/article syndication and social bookmarking..

That is what we all use with blogs:) You're good, don;t freak out like I did when I started getting picked up with IB links:)
I thought something was wrong, and I had unintentionally screwed up and was getting fake numbers.
    It's all good.

i really only consider BH what is either against a law, or against Google/ISP TOS.

Theres a borderline like...if something is considered "unethical"...but if it complied to G's TOS and your ISPs and the law it is not blackhat.

Article submission for sure not .)
