Bumping Infractions System is Flawed

DP has become a joke with regards to how they issue out infractions for bumping threads. It's gotten to the point where you can't even communicate properly with buyers or potential buyers without risking a ban on the forum. Letting a member know you're around by acknowledging their bid is considered a bump, but there is more to it then that.

A friend specifically asked a moderator on the forum how to go about reducing BIN or adding info to a thread without receiving a bumping infraction. They said it was best to edit the thread.

On a recent thread where he ultimately got banned due to infractions for bumping threads, he posted a follow up comment after 8 hours of starting the thread, so couldn't edit the thread, and it was still considered a bump. This logic in itself is flawed. You are not allowed to post duplicate threads (which is fair enough).

So what is one supposed to do to advise everyone of new information regarding a sale, without posting a duplicate thread which is against forum guidelines.

So, when will DP reform the system and stop being the laughing stock of the forum fraternity?

It is a bump if it takes it from say page 2 or 3 page to the top of page (which it would probably be that buried after 8 hours if there has been no other posts)

I just do it anyway and cop the infraction lol. I'm not sure of any other method (sometimes I PM if they ask a question or something)

It depends what he wrote, and if someone had posted something. For example:

    Post Thread at 9.03 pm
Someone posts at 9.04 pm (I'll bid $10)
You post back at 9.05 pm (Holy moly that was really quick :) You are the current highest bidder)

I would not consider that a bump (because it was so quick after the other post and doesn't actually bump it anywhere)

    This though...

    Post Thread at 9.03 pm
Someone posts at 9.04 pm (I'll bid $10)
You post back at 6.00 am (Holy moly that was really quick :) You are the current highest bidder)

Than that is a bump because its been so long since the last post and posting back would bring it forward 2 or 3 pages

Yeah, I've just had to cop a few infractions for things like lower BINs. I made a post the other day which commented on what was being sold and said congrats to the winner and got an infraction for that.

Exactly......and many people think the mods are stupid when they do that :)

But the mods are on to that as you can see :)

I actually did get an infraction for posting 1 or 2 minutes after someone else  oh well lol

If you leave it more than 5-10 minutes then it's a bump plain and simple. If it's 10 hours or so then I'm not sure why there is any confusion lol

They have been cracking down on it alot recently which is good.

On another note, I hope they crack down on this guy:
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=367810

I get up him for selling them, so he lowers the price to make even more sales. Give him a ban lol. He can't see why it's wrong and actually thinks its how you do business (he is a good guy, everyone gets it cheaper!)

    Do it, you won't.

If you do for whatever wacked reason I'll make a mod give it to me instead.

If you start swearing and stuff you will get one, just don't "flame" or anything which is against the rules (last time I checked so was flogging off other peoples stuff illegally but hey...)

That SOB is misquoting me (adding stuff to my posts which I never said)

Grrrr. Oh, and back onto the topic of bumping.

Have to wait for a mod to come and answer this. It differs from case to case depending upon so many factors (how long since last post, was the post necessary etc.)

You have received an infraction at Digital Point Forums.

    Reason: Inappropriate Language
    -------
Appropriate posts in a sales thread are:

    Questions for seller.
    Responses by seller.
    Negotiations.
    -------

This infraction is worth 1 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.

One of moderators (either Smyrl or ViciousSummer, don't remember) said that you're only allowed to reduce the BIN once! I think that's fair, you don't need to set a very high BIN just to keep reducing it later (= bumping your thread).

And honestly, posts with current bids, auction ending time, "Thanks!", "PM sent" are PURE BUMPS.

If people can't read the forum rules, it's their own problem.

Just wanted to post my opinion. ;)

There is thousands and thousands of people on this forum at anytime. I got infractions for "bumping" when I added more details 3 min later. Not sure why it was bumping as 3 min well that's no time. But did I start a whiny thread? NO.

This place is like the wild west where moderators shoot and DON'T ASK questions.

Don't want to get banned? Don't do QUESTIONABLE things. Just take your medicine; if someone thinks your thread sucks and never replies that's your loss on a poorly written sales copy :D.

    Peace

I understand why its done, but they have to remember that there are lots of other threads that just repeat the same thing.

When I come to post a link sale a while ago it sank to bottom of page 2 in at least 20mins, I was amazed but I noticed it was because lots of people had posted link sales on about there sig's!!!!!

new sections need to be added, this way people wouldnt have to bump there threads

LOL Read Bold for scan reading :)

What's hilarious about this thread is someone gave me a red and said "I Got one toO!" haha. For future reference I always put my name on reds. I like them to know where it came from!
