Well a 2-3 letter domain would be worth 100X more. So it does matter what the domain name is also.

Like I sometimes say...PR will come and go, but the URL is forever.

So, hopefully you picked something relevant!:D

I would say $1500 - ??? ++ ONLY if it's a good name. Possibly less, would have to see the name first, and quality of links, age, ect.

Let's not forget that as a poster said above, pagerank comes and goes, the same as backlinks.

I am so (almost want to say "fed up") with everyone (not in this thread but in general) yelling "PAGERANK!!@"

Sure, of course pagerank is very important, especially if your just going to use the domain for ads and marketing it as a search engine domain, trying to drive traffic for impressions and clicks only.

IF, and I mean IF! You are planning on actually running a quality real branded business then the domain must be memorable, and most of the time should be short under and under 10 letters, preferably under 5 or 6, if not 3 or 4 being best.

    You tell me..

Let's skip rank for a sec.. what's better.. This is just for discussion purposes obviously..

    #1

    cars.com
(for some reason or another wasn't marketed for years, went dormant, not parked, and fell to a pr1 or even a pr0, and over the years the backlinks slowly disappeared as sites went belly up, ect.)

    #2

    cardealer.net
(heavier marketing and branded with tons of backlinks and has been a steady pr5 for years now)

    iwanttosellcarsonl1ne.biz
(pr7 domain because of tons of backlinks and seo on a directory style site, not necessarily great backlinks, mostly FFA directories, and link clouds. site contains plr articles, and links to directory niches, ect. Has been a pr7 for about 1 year or less)

You have $3,000 and all are for sale for that price, which do you buy??

I will tell you right now which I would pick!
    #1 without a second doubt!

C'mon everyone.. Pagerank is IMPORTANT, but you can get the pagerank yourself with a quality domain purchase. If cars.com (the first choice) was for sale at moniker live auction, with no backlinks and no pagerank it will still sell for 6 figures, maybe 7 most likely.

You can't brand a quality business around choice #3 iwanttosellcarsonl1ne.biz

Could you see t-shirts with that on them, or biz cards, a sign on the front of your building?

Sometimes it's the domain that has value, not always pagerank, and obviously it plays an important factor in which you are trying to use this domain for. Is it ads and search engine traffic for clicks on adsense and affiliates, in the hopes that after 6 months Google decides your site sucks and you start seeing no revenue or huge drops?

Or are you trying to build a real brand with a quality business name people want to do business with for a product and or service you have, and see quality in your name. Just think you can have a quality domain, and pagerank will come in time with the right steps on your own.

Let me tell you.. I have been in business for 11 years marketing online and in the tech industry, owning my company since early 96 and have seen a lot of mistakes, including my own at times. I would rather spend my $3,000 on choice #1 any day of the week.

The people who start saying $3,000 to 6 figures for a pr7 and hasn't even seen the domain, needs to go back a little and look at current domain sales for quality names regardless of pagerank. This thread might be about some crappy domain such as...

    myZboy1friendisinco11egerightnow.ca

And there is no way that would be worth $3,000 I don't care what pr7 it has.. That name sucks, and it just doesn't suck bad, it's downright terrible with an after taste.

Sorry, I am just so frustrated with all the pr freaks.. I admit that I myself get caught up in it too, but quality is always better to me. Pagerank comes and goes, you can always take the time to get quality and get PR easier.

My two cents.. Sorry if I offended anyone here. I just felt someone had to finally say it.. If you disagree that's fine.. I understand there are always two points of view.. And I totally respect everyone's opinion.

    Thank you for listening.

Thank god someone things like me here.. I am sick of the PR freaks here. who will pay anything for anyname.. Eventually the PR will disappear and they will be holding a bag of crap..

Funny how everyone was quoting 2k - 3k -10k's even without looking at the name.

everyone assumes that the domain has some links that justify the pr, after all sites dont just get pr7 out of nothing ;)
