Well i think the Internet is too young to say that yahoo or MSN has no future. Remember that Microsoft's specialty is NOT search engines just like Y!'s specialty was not. It was a directory who's concept is way different from google.

But even then, Microsoft came up with Internet Explorer which today has no rival. It's definitely fun to watch in the coming years, especially that there has been more innovations from the search engines in one year alone than in the last 10 years. I still believe Yahoo can climb up the mountain, MSN can and will as well.

    Hi Bill :)

Most digital/new generation technical advancements are making swift attempts to catch up their rivals. Ie, Nikon are two generations behind Canon (in the camera world - just as example). For Nikon users, their cameras are out of date even with the new stuff on the market (and it's WAY over priced) however, they are making new attempts to come climb that ladder again. Yahoo were huge 5 years ago. Google was a new fad and although a self confessed google addict, yahoo stills comes in handy!

    It's an advancement frenzy!

Yahoo is still huge even compared to google, but from perspectives other than search. IMO they are second to google. They won't catch up with google because google is not stuck in a place waiting for yahoo and msn to catch up.

They won't catch up because they are having trouble getting the results they show to be relevant to the search.

I don't think that their serps will always be the same. They are always testing new ones plus the site explorer is a good example of y!'s dedication to compete against google. They also don't lack money and manpower, so i don't think anything can stop them. They just need more time.

    Hey web-rover,

Yahoo seems to do this for some odd reason...it makes no sense whatsoever. One thing I've found that works is if you have an older more established site, try pointing a couple of other links to pages you'd like to see appear in the index sooner. You'll find that within a day or two they'll magically appear.

I don't know why, and it makes no sense. I saw a deep crawl of over 2,000 pages that didn't actually appear until about 2-months later, that was frustrating. In the meantime whatever pages I wanted to actually show up in the index had to be linked to individually by one of my other sites.

Try it and see if it works. Good luck

I think there is a strong corrolation here between msn, Yahoo! and aol and the fact that they have so much traffic because of their messenger and free email services from way back when, people will use their search functions no matter how they suck
