Review for Joking Blog

Hello everyone,
This is a new website me and my partner launched few hours ago, the site is Joking Blog, is a blog where you can register and post your own online joke, in simple words, a blog with an idea to be created and expand (in db) from the visitors, users.

I would like to hear reviews or ideas about this project. It will be appreciated.

Hi, looks decent!
I would recommend more pictures...and that "funny online blog" thing in your header...whats that for? I think it would better without that bit.
The graphic on the top of your sidebar (layered curved edges) can go as well, it looks a bit amateurish. Otherwise, good job overall!

 

too many gap and white space make it look empty also right menu header font is a bit too big. you can put ads to gain more revenue as well.

 

The header has a nice design A few suggestions:
- first unit on top , use a white background / green text colorscheme
- for your ad units in the content area, remove the border so it blends in better with your content
- for the text on the left, add more spacing between the edge and the text. Also, minimize the font size..

 

Thank you, that was really nice of you taking some time. Sidebar somehow it works perfect for me on FF, dunno why the content it sticks to the border and even the header tags look bigger. I will fix that right away. Also the suggestion about the first unit on top is a nice thought. I will take care of it right away.

 

I suggest removing the green border round the google adsense

 

I probably will, but i am just testing standing ads against blending ads for now. I just want to see how this will work.

Looks nice, but There should be any Entertainment Related theme with cartoon pictures and other colors in stead of Green.

 

Thank you for your review riya_senk, i was trying not to give it a too much childish look, as i am willing to target more adult visitors so was trying to keep a feel of the theme that would balance pretty much and fit for all, teen-younger-midage visitors.

Of course this theme will need lots of more work and changes, that is why i am here asking for review and critiques (which are always appriciated). This is just the first fase of the work, changes and modifications will be made thanks to your reviews.

I think your header / logo needs to be bigger and it needs to
clearly 'say' humour. When I go to the blog I am not immediately
aware of it as a humour or joke blog and I think it needs to
really say that clearly to catch surfers who are idly looking for
a distraction.

Second, you need some funny jokes! I'm not sure about you guys
but 'blonde' jokes? I guess they're just not my thing. And the bat
joke has so many grammaticals and spelling mistakes I assumed the
writer was not an English speaker. For a joke to be funny it has to
be a) told well and b) grammatical. When someone is rereading a
word to make sense of it their attention gets distracted from the
joke's storyline and the punchline suffers.

Thank you southwark, that was very helpful. Indeed, seems like I will have to hire someone (with English as motherlanguage) for reviewing the jokes content and edit necessary parts. As far as it regards the categories, there are much other categories as option for the writers visible, me and my partner are not in a big rush with this project, we are just willing the DB to grow slowly but healthy, with jokes and posts from users, not from us the administrators. We just post a joke from time to time to motivate the visitors to write their own joke.

 

you can put ads to gain more revenue as well.

 

I am still not worried about ads even tho the blog has been developed under a domain with a steady traffic. But thanks for the suggestion

u can add more cartoons and color images, make it as colourful one. use dark colors and change the green color.

add more funny jokes - make visitors read it again and again.

 

Thank you for your review. I was considering to use more cartoon images, but as i said on the post above, i wanted to keep the look for adults too a little, trying to target not only kids, but also adults that want to relax at their half an hour break from work and read some jokes.

As far as it regards the more jokes, i have left it this empty so far, just because i am "trying" to incentive users to write jokes instead of writing jokes by myself (see this thread). I will keep it this way for at least a month, if it won't work, i will start to fill the DB with my jokes, or jokes from my friends.

 

* adsense on your header does not look good . i think you must remove it (or move to another place)

* there is an huge space under your main menu. if you add some content to that space , it will be better
