I just finished up a double major in Anthropology and Psychology and would love to spend some time in India. I've seen a lot of advertisements for English teachers in Japan and China, but of course there isn't the same kind of demand in India since so many people are already bilingual. Does anyone know if there are any other English language opportunities like editing or proofreading, or some other area where international people tend to work? I just don't know where to start looking!
These days India has welcomed foreign students to work in a call centre. You would be surprise to know that you could get a job here in India and yet work for an American Company based in America. You could start working in a reputed call centre and then try other avenues after about six months or one year of working time.I have been inspired to reply to your thread here after having read about an article in one of the locan news paper where people from USA,Canada etc are working in call centre's here in India, for a limited time frame.
Cool, I had wondered about call centres. And it would be easier to possibly interview in the states and then transfer. Thanks so much for your help!
Any advice for an American grad interested in working in India? Advice? Don't do it! LOL I'm really not sure what there is, if there is anything for you to do that'd be remotely profitable for you.
Well it's not profit so much as the experience that I'm interested in. I've always been facinated by the country and would like to live there as opposed to travel through-- and I don't want to drain what little savings I have *paying* to volunteer, as seems to be the norm with many short-term programs of that sort.
India is now one of the countries that offers outsourcing services to US. I think you can do better in call centers. Webmaster staffing companies in India are also famous. Some webmaster staffing companies also hire writers of different articles to be posted on their client's sites.
Why don't you see if recruitment consultants have anything. They may liase wiith compnaies that offer foreign placements. In India, there is no discrimination. Everyone, Indians and foreigners an equal have a chance of landing a job. Its all down to who has the better credentials.
consultants (like Manpower I assume?) would be good, esp. considering the likely temporary nature of the work. Webmaster staffing-- not something I am very familiar with. Editing/writing would be good though. I'll have to check it out-- thanks!
As far as money is concerned, you won't get paid huge money unless you are software engineer But if you want to come here for culture and travel, then you can definately come here and earn some money through call centeres perhaps some acting in Hindi movies. They always need americans/europeans.But for that you will have to come to Mumbai(Bombay).
I love Bollywood! I didn't know they were hard up for foreign actors. If I had *any* acting experience believe me, I would be all over that! (and Shahrukh, were I on set with him haha) Bombay itself does appeal though, so much going on there~ thanks for the tips
