Need Help Converting Visitors

    I'm having trouble converting visitors to sales on my website, MrAirsoft.com. We get a lot of visitors everyday, but nobody buys anything! I have some ideas, like revamping the intro text, but getting some advice from fellow DP fellow can't hurt.

    You could always try to decrease your prices if you haven't, and can still make a profit.

    Is your traffic targeted? If your visitors are a bunch of 80 year old women, I don't think they're very likely to buy guns.

    Kaabi, if you have traffic, then there is something wrong with your site.

    I suggest you to test everything, headline, fonts, colors, graphics, prices and do it one at a time to see what give you the best result.

    We lowered the prices, I don't see how colors would help, but green is standard. And I don't get this thing:

    How is having traffic wrong?

    Ok, there are a few problems with the site.

    Firstly, take off the second paragraph from the home page which talks about Payment by Credit Card or PayPal. This information should come on the payment page and not here.

    Changing the color and font will definitely help. You don't have a sales pitch on the home page. No 'Buy Now' buttons with the listing. You should bold the name and price and use a different color for price.

    You need to improve the design in order to improve the conversion from the website.

    Give as much product detail for each product as you can. For example, this product only has 1 line of content and nothing else. I think this is a major problem, as users will be interested in a more detailed explanation of the product.

    take a hint from the big players... Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and anyone else who does business online.

    They are there to make money and therefore have spent millions researching what works and what doesn't.

    Look at their websites, analyze them. What colors do they use? Font? Layout? Buy Now buttons?

    One thing I DON'T like about your site is how I'm facing a large block of text and the producs are all along the edges and bottom of the page. I think this is a mistake. You don't want people to come to your page and read... you want them to buy.

    Feature your products and present them in a more appealing way.

    Do like a 'First 200 buyers get coupon discount or something. Have some kind of promotion and have it exposed right when they get to your site.

    You're better off setting a time limit... like until July 4th...

    If you say "first 200 buyers" and someone checks back after 3 weeks and the offer is still valid, they might not buy because they'll see you are a small time operation and they might not trust your shop.

    Don't give them reason to doubt. Set a time limit.

    Yeah I was just giving a general suggestion. Obviously, can be more creative then just the first 200 people. Besides, it's up to the seller to be honest to their merchants. If he wants to build trust, then be honest. If he sold 200, then it's up to him to let his people know. If he doesn't want to be trusted, well, it's on him.
    But special occasions are good (July 4th);)

    These are all good ideas. As for those short descriptions, we can't help those. When I was browsing through the products I talked to my partner about why some of the descriptions were so short, and I even called our supplier about it, but I'm afraid that's the best we can do. However, most products have good descriptions. Oh, and that CA gun, there wasn't a good description for it, I couldn't find one, it was weird; that's the only CA gun that does not have a good description, I know that.

    We will be having a promotion very shortly, in fact, I'll tell you, mainly because I have a question about whether I can do it or not.
    I want to give away an iPod, and basically, the amount of stuff you purchase contributes to your chances of winning. $0-$9 is 1 chance, $10-$19 is 2 chances, like that. However, that's a little like a lottery and since we use PayPal I was wondering if that would be a problem.

    To putting the products in a better position on the index, I see no way we can do that. We need to have an introduction text, we can't move the new products box up to the top. I'm going to rewrite that, it's a definite, and I'll try to make it shorter as to have the new products box up higher. And I will change the font, and look into all those design things. I don't know what you mean by having "Buy Now" buttons, Rosie; we have the "Add to Cart" thing.

    Alright, so I'll talk to my partner about doing some redesign, and I'm definitely going to rewrite the intro text. Also, we are getting an SSL certificate soon, and that should help because it creates buyer confidence. Thanks for all the help, and any more suggestions are welcome!

    Load time seems to be a problem for me. I'm not sure where the server is located, but i'm from the US and it seems to be taking me quite sometime to go from page to page. It could just be me... if not, this could be a problem as well.

    As others have said, move your highlighted products to the top of the page.

    Moving those products to the top might be a problem, but I will incorporate some pictures into the intro text, as well as completely change it. Any SPECIFIC suggestions on colors or design?

    The reason your not selling is because your trying to sell.

    Instead of sending traffic directly to a sales page, give something away that is of interest or along the lines of what you sell for exchange of their email address and name. (Can be info, sample, hopefully something that costs you nothing.)

    That way you can start building a list of potentials that are interested in what you have and you can email them about special updates, prices, etc. (Use a auto-responder service for this.)

    It is when you build a relationship with them and have them returning multiple times that you will begin to make sales. In the emails that they receive from you add useful content that they may be interested in and soft sale them something in the P.S. section that could be related to the content you provided.

    Here's an idea, give away free targets for people to PRINT out and use. Just make a nice looking target with Corel or Photoshop (or whatever software you have available), stick your website address and contact info on it and make it available for free download and printing.

    PS: Why give away an iPod? People are coming to your site to buy guns, not music... give away ammo and gift certificates for your store. You can give away more prizes for the same money spent and hopefully people will re-order once the free supply runs out. :)

    Before I get into proof and a few other items I have to ask where the traffic is coming from.

    Targeted traffic is much better that any old traffic

    when i do keyword research I break my keywords down into categories
    IM - in the market
    EM - entering the market
    om - outside the market

    not all visitors within a target are equal as well

    I hunt IM keywords

    in your case thats someone who is looking for exactly what your selling...

    getting the right traffic is what you start with

    not volume for volumes sake

    before we talk proof you need to talk about obvious benefits which I didn't see much of. What's in it for the customer?

    You need to give someone a reason to believe you... I don't see that on your page

    where's your proof
    How do you deliver the benefit
    how can the wrap their hands around the product?
    Can they sample it - a 30 day trial maybe
    Can they get a demonstration - you doing a video
    some feedback - anything that can tap into their senses
    what are your qualifications (maybe even your personal experiences with the product)
    testimonials - video is best but written is cool - video with the product in their hands (ask past customers to help out)
    guarantee - don't under estimate this - very strong proof elements because you can tie it in to a few of the above

    you can work it into providing proof

    for example - buy it - take it home and if after 30 days your not happy send it back for a refund- but at least this wy you can feel the power and know how the product works

    nothing beats having it in your hands to help make a decision

    I see no proof elements on the page

    Returns in the airsoft business, that's shaky. There are some videos that come with some of the guns. We have gun reviews. And we can't do those 30 day trial things, you just can't, not in this business (long story). Airsoft is very touchy about warranties and guarantees and things of that nature. Keep in mind this isn't your standard electronic or virtual product. That "print out a target", that's a good idea, we will use that. And for establishing customer relationships, I have a plan for that. When we do the mini-redesign you can give me more help, or give me more help now, whatever you want.
