I run a forum based web site that primarily focuses on games from Blizzard entertainment. Most of the time we rehash news that they post on their site, but often times we also have other content as well. To sum it up, I would like to have a better method of tracking how my users are coming to my site. Many of them view the information, but hardly ever post or register. My host doesn't give me much in the way of visitor tracking, so what free methods do you guys know of?
If you have access to your raw log files; go to http://www.funnelwebcentral.com/ and download their free log analyzer. This is used locally on your machine. It's terrific. You can also go to http://awstats.sourceforge.net and get awstats; and install locally or to your regular website. Or http://webalizer.com/ which can be installed locally or to your website. Last but not least; if you have 25 bucks; go to http://wusage.com At the very least you can try out the free trial; but the program is worth the $25.
