hi people. I want to ask you something. How do we decide if a link to our website is good or not for us. I mean there are a lot of websites that we should not have link on them. please post here all the information required to decide weather a link is good or not for a specific website. Is there any way to see if a website is 'black listed' by google so we don't do a misstake and take a link from it? Also tell me how bad will that link be.

I think the 2 most important factors are relevance and a recent cache date.

I don't think a site linking to you can be harmful in anyway. You have no control over which sites link to you, so it would be unfair for search engines to penalize you if a "bad site" links to you.

Link only to relevant sites that has quality content. Avoid linking to bad site such as link farm site and other gambling site.

Just check the url and and follow that the link page that does not have rel=no follow if it has then the link has no seo value.

Sites linking to you will not do any harm.
In the worst case scenario they will be just ignored by google.

A good link is: high PR, high traffic, limited number of outgoing links, relevant to your niche.

You can tell how good or bad the site is... If it's related sites it is good and if not related it's a bad site.... See what's the theme of the site and you will know if they are related sites or not if not reject them 'coz it is link farming linking to unrelated sites...:D

A good idea is to use the bad neighborhood tool to see if the site is good or not. Good link has to do with relevance of the page, relevance of the link, PR of the linking page and other factors like SE Friendliness of the linking page and site, and the number of links on the site. You can get more information for quality of links in this article I wrote.
