I use Fireworks MX and would like to know the best way to design, splice and code the homepage image(s) in html/CSS.

There are plenty of tutorials around. Why not hit up www.pixel2life.com and see if you can find anything there. Thanks, Rich
If you ever need a tutorial for anything related to the bare coding of HTML, (without using an actual program) try W3 Schools They have nearly all the coding info you could ever need on nearly all of the coding languages you could ever need!
And then read this post for an example of how to code your site's template. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=2619952#post2619952 Also, please pay attention to the following correction: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=2630993#post2630993
I real good wysiwyg editor is www.nvu.com it has alot of video tutorials. I think it was originaly made for FF. The best thing about it {{{{{{{ IT'S FREE }}}}}}}}.
The only problem with wysiwyg editors in general, (not NVU particularly) is that they have a tendency to generate what can be quite poor code... If I remember the article I was reading, Dreamweaver is the best for WYSIWYG, but it is also good because you can just use it for coding, which allows you to start getting to grips with coding... Frontpage on the other hand... *shudders*
